Hey all ,
I have recently got hold of a very original 10/74 Alfetta 1.8 and am looking to clean it up and get it on club rego .
It has the original light blue paint that seems to have been quite thinly applied , around the drivers door for instance it appears to have been rubbed down to white undercoat .
So I have now given it a good wash and want to polish and wax it , just wondering what polish and or wax people can recommend for a 46 year old paint .
Also , anyone recommend somewhere to get a front and centre muffler and manifold gaskets ?
cheers
Adam...

Congrats on the car!

I'd start with a clay bar first. Then you could try a gentle polish like Mothers Pure Polish or Meguiars Ultimate Polish. I would stay away from compound polish if your paint is thin - you are more likely to rub through. Finish it off with a suitable carnauba wax.

It is possible to buy a paint depth gauge if you are concerned. It will give you a better idea of how much paint you have before you try polishing it.

Congratulation on the purchase of your Alfetta.  Further to GTVeloce post,  other products include Autoglym SRP polish all available at your local auto store (links below with product info which are highly recommended for DIY's). With respect to exhaust parts I would be contacting your local club sponsor.

Thanks GTVeloce and bonno , of to supa cheap now to get some.
I also need something to remove old glue from pinstripes that have been removed .
Will see what I can find at supacheap,
Back story on the car, My late uncle bought it new in 11/74 and it was his one true pride and joy.
The only people ever to drive the car were my mother ,sister and me. The car was left to my sister who took it from Sydney to QLD and enjoyed it for a few years and then it spent the last 9 years in a shed.
So last weekend I hired a trailer and road tripped up to Maryborough QLD and brought it home to join my 81 GTV6 and 86 GTV6 GP and my wifes 2013 Mito .
My plan is to get the Alfetta and the GP both on historic plates, and hopefully finish the very long 3L transplant into the 81.
Cheers guy's will post some piccys in a new thread later.
