Hi all, I've picked up a crack in the very bottom of the fuel tank (GT Junior 1970).
Planning to remove the fuel tank myself and take it to a repairer.
Any recommendation for a repairer in Sydney's inner west??

Many thanks

Hi Campbeli
You could also try the company at the following link (refer to Radiator Supply & Repairs icon, then drop down menu Fuel Tank repairs tab).

Suggest getting it checked out thoroughly.  These tanks crack over time due to repeated expansion / contraction and corrosion.  A rusty tank should be replaced of course.

Thanks Aggie57, the plan is to pull the tank out (I'm sure that will be easy), then take it to a repairer for a assessment. I'm guessing a new tank is $300 to buy so an "as new" repair will have to be less than that.

Tanks look expensive at Alfaholics. £170+, plus freight.

I've got a non-Alfa project car fuel tank that needs dents pulling, then the whole unit stripping and painting. My idealised budget is $300 repairs and $350 strip/paint. Most places don't want to touch used petrol tanks due to fear of explosion.

£165 at EB spares too so up over $300 aud + freight

In the scheme of things that sounds pretty reasonable. Tanks can go bang.......😀

Never heard of a tank going bang.. but a repair will likely leak again, and could continue to fail in other places ... it's also, not(!) that easy to get the neck of the tank out (YMMV)

My opinion, just replace it; Alfaholics, ClassicAlfa, EB etc.. the price new is likely the same as repair(s) and you get peace of mind.... and only have to fit it once (more importantly).  There are always other things you might want/need to pad out the freight (jewellery, switches, service parts, brake pads, sequential six speed titanium gearboxes)

Yeah, I was being a little tongue in cheek.  I'm with you, I'd just replace it.  Leaking / failing tanks are a pain in the butt.
