Is there benefit in removing the pollen filter and leaving it out to give the aircon/fan the best chance of success on a hot QLD day?

Will the cover go back on with the element removed?

Will it throw any warning codes?

Best chance to get it working best is -

A/ Replace pollen filter with new
B/ Replace Drier (the part that sucks water out of the system, the desiccant will be well used by now)
C/ Have the Charging valves replaced when you get the system re-gassed

Make sure the heater blower blades are 100% clean!
Accumulated crap on the blades reduces the airflow considerably.

All airflow goes through the evaporator core IIRC, removing the follen pilter will simply allow this to block up faster. A contrary outcome to the desire stated.

Which brands are two-piece?:

Your 156 is a Facelift Interior, and thus uses a 2 piece filter set that inserts under the passenger side of the dash. The earlier 156 interior uses a one piece filter and is fitted under the passenger side wiper scuttle cover.

Your car must use the 2 piece filter and is not brand specific, but car model specific.

Clear as mud?  ???
