Hi guys,

After information on a very interesting Alfa i came across.

I have heard and seen plastic bumper GTV's (and one alfetta sedan) Turbo delta's that were dealer built by Ray Gulson and John French.

But this one is a steel bumper Gtv, the story go's that the then Alfa Australia CEO, Dr Ruggero Rotondo, had 8 red steel bumper ones built in house all 1980 models, at Alfa Australia, Sydney, one he kept, this one. The head mechanic who was involved in all 8 builds bought this one after a year and has owned it every since, he doesn't know the where abouts of the other 7.

Has anyone seen the other 7, or heard about these, because until i saw this one, i had no knowledge that they existed.

They are very similiar to the dealer ones, inc the 15" simmons.

Thanks in advance

Don't have any info Dave but thanks for sharing, really interesting bit of history. Makes me feel the Simmons wheels on my car have a bit more authenticity too!

When I brought my new 156 from Zagame Motor's in 2000 one of the mechanics had one of these cars .I remember seeing it in the workshop when their service department was in Flockhart street in Burnley near the Yarra .  It had changed hands a couple of times from different Alfa mechanics working at different dealerships in Victoria. I think it is still owned by a mechanic at one of the better alfa workshops in Victoria. But I'll let him tell the story . I don't know about 8 cars but they definitely exist .

On another note Beninca's had a road going black 1980 turbo charged steel bumpered car that they developed. You could buy one of their turbo kits and have it fitted . It was a beautiful car that sat in their showroom for many years. I always used to go down there and have a dribble over it.

Bump, Dave I just jumped on by bike and went down to Beninca's  ( they are only 500metres from home) . The car s still there.  A little dusty but still in great shape also with Symonds gold wheels .Here's a photo sorry about the quality.
From memory the Beninca Turbo kit could be fitted to 116 & 105 cars . There is a green  105 GTV locally I have seen with the Turbo kit.

Bump Bump , Not very often you go somewhere and see 2 Alfetta GTV's in the front window

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.  Probably have seen this before from Modern Motor magazine June '83, another chrome bumper turbodelta, this one NSW registered including flared guards and rear spoiler.

Thanks guys,

Its interesting reading the article, it mentions the intrusive power windows and boost gauge, both of which mine has, the power windows are a enclosed electric motor in a black box that slides onto the original shaft, that is mounted onto the door trim, very 80's, but sort of cool, and mine still works.

I wounder if the car in the article is a Alfa australia built car as well?

Or dealer built?

Another thing i noticed while stripping her down getting her ready for a freshen up, no intrusion bars in the doors.

Thanks again

David

The car in the article was converted here for Ruggero Rotondo who was Managing Director of Alfa Australia at the time with parts imported from Autodelta. It had the Campagnolo 13" wheels. Not sure where it is now as last known owner was a member of the constabulary in th NSW police force who had problems with it and was stored.

There was one white steel bumper turbodelta in South Hobart area approx. 1998.  It was very rusty then but complete. Had not run for some time at that point.
