Hey guys, after idea's on what I could be looking at with something I've noticed with my manual 159 2.4jtd:

This is mainly when cold and is very subtle/non-existent after a couple of mins of driving but when taking off in 1st, pressing the clutch pedal in to shift to 2nd, it's feels quite rough and you feel and hear a sudden clunk. When shifting into the other gears though it feels really smooth and after driving for 5-10 minutes the 1st to 2nd feels fine.

After driving for a while today though I did notice the same thing to a lesser extent when taking off and makes it feel incredibly sluggish when it does happen.

Hi J159
By clunky do you mean "difficult" to shift from 1st to 2nd when cold and does double de-clutching from 1st to 2nd improve the situation?

Probably haven't described it well but shifting itself is fine and isn't stiff (fixed that with an oil change previously). Seems to be related to the clutch when taking off and pressing the pedal in to change to 2nd the car shudders very abruptly is probably a better way to put it.

Hi,

What is the odometer reading on the vehicle?

Are you having the same troubles/noises etc getting it into reverse?

Hi Mick, only around 88kms on the clock and no issues with reverse at all.

Based on the Kms and what you described it sounds like the clutch might be on the way out. Find attached Youtube link on how to test for a worn clutch.

Get it to an Alfa specialist to check it. If the clutch & flywheel seem to operate properly get him to check the engine mounts.

Will try and take it to my mechanic to have a look at it soon. Just thought it was strange it was only happening coming from a cold start and happens once or twice and then it's fine when taking off after that. If driven and left to sit for half a day, it seems to be alright.

Clutch pedal still feels fine and doesn't appear to be slipping. Took her for a drive yesterday and it shuddered when pressing in the pedal after accelerating in 1st and once again when taking off at the set of lights on my street but the following stop shortly after it felt fine.

Just make sure its someone familiar with the unique character flaws of Alfas.  ;)
