Hi All, as posted a couple of days ago, the recently acquired '04 Spider now needs a remote control key. Irreparable according to my key guru. Any suggestions as to affordable  replacements, please. Jim

What's the dealer price to supply and code in a new key?

The aftermarket diagnostics many of us have (MultiECUscan) doesn't support key or remote programming for these models. So it infers you're at the whim of official agents.

Hi Jim
Not sure if this helps with your  04 Spider, but I went thru this exercise with my 156 JTS several months back and I can tell you it will be quite a lengthy and expensive exercise if you go thru the AR dealer ($500+). If you have the Security code or + ($90) if you don't and you not to fussed about the remote opening and closing doors, then a local mobile service should be able to cut and program your key for around ($200). The frustrating part with the 156JTS is that it requires the AR dealer or someone who has the specialised equipment to access the cars computer to configure the keys remote function ($150+).

Thanks everyone. I think I'm resigned to doing without rc door locking, due to the embuggerance involved. Jim

I strongly advise against it.

The door lock cylinders are not overly durable, you will end up in a worse situation sooner than later.

By the time you pay for an aftermarket kit like the RCXi to be installed you're approaching the cost of a proper key.

EDIT: This is the device to which I refer.

It's the most "bare bones" keyless entry from a reputable name, I've found. Not desperately cheap but I've tried some of the really cheap ones and not had joy with them. Problems like only being able to learn one remote of the two supplied! This unit could be grafted under the glovebox, you only need to splice into two wires in addition to providing permanent power and ground.

Thanks Citroenbender, I'll have a look at the non-genuine rc unit. Jim
