Adding a reversing camera to 2017 Giulietta Super
« on: February 04, 2018, 02:13:57 PM »
I've just picked up my new Giulietta after my last one was written off (sob) in a hail storm just before Christmas. It's a 2017 Super and has provision for a reversing camera on the rear-view mirror and adjacent to the brake light at the top of the hatch.

Has anyone added a camera to their Giulietta using the existing provisions? Is it a job for the service centre or easy to DIY?

If it's for the service centre, has anyone done this and have an idea of cost?

Thanks
Anthony

In case anyone is interested, I now have a working reverse camera with the UConnect headunit. Even has the steering guide lines working.

Cost was $450 for a kit from Melbourne - there was a bit of stuffing around, so happy to help with tips

Can you give a link to where you got it from and any info on the "stuffing around" ?

Bought from this mob;

http://www.naviplus.com.au/single-post/2018/02/19/Major-Alfa-Romeo-products-updates-From-Naviplus---on-940-Giulietta-series

I bargained them down because I had a camera already, but it was still included in the kit. I didnít use it because it was a universal one that needed to be screwed into the bumper - no thanks!

I used one of these instead for a very neat look;

The install requires the headunit to be opened and ribbon cable fitting to the main circuit board. This connects via an hdmi cable to a video interface box. This in turn taps into the canbus circuit for a reverse signal and steering wheel angle data.

The kit was originally for a Jeep Renegade, so the instructions were not quite right. But the vendor helped with good troubleshooting tips and deduced the right settings for the interface box.

The kit is very much aimed at professional installers, so I appreciated them helping with tech support.
