Afternoon all,

The HSC is out of the way for me, which means I can lock myself in the shed and tinker with the GTV. I've heard around the traps, and compared stats between the Euro spec alfetta engines and Australian, and noticed the exhasut cam timing differed. To agree with the smog laws and all that rubbish they must have advanced the timing a tooth.

From some others I've heard if you retard the exhaust cam by a tooth you will make a little gain. Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers

Will

You can advance of retard one or both camshafts either side of the timing marks to match carbie and /or exhaust setup. The best way to adjust cam timing is via the vernier on each cam drive this allows for smaller increments of adjustment I think 1.5degree increments instead of the giant leap of a whole tooth. Dont forget to rotate the engine by hand after any adjustment, the further you move the cam timing mark away from the bearing cap timing mark the closer the valves move towards a collision with the pistons. The first of the alfettas had 10548 camshafts and webbers with a change to the Australian design rules came the d'ellortos and less polluting lower performing camshafts were installed.

With a quick search I found this see post 4

Thank you kindly

You ought to consider an earlier set of cams from the 105 series . 10548 cams  .( pre Alfetta , pre pollution). Should be able to get a pair for a couple of hundred bucks . Big improvement.

Sounds good to me, its a race car primarily, and if cams decide to open it up a little I want to be ready to race it in group S (81 alfetta unfortunately) , Racing a TR6 next year as well.

Anywhere you know where to get the Cams at a good price?

yeh pretty much everyone has a set always around $250 to 300
but you need to download from centreline in the US
their vernier print out for the timing marks on the caps
the marks range from 99.5 to 114 ( aus inletBAD)
so you need know which capos you have before you move the move the cams
you idealy want the cams at 102 on both as a start which is the old cap mark from 1974
