Hi Alfa Dudes

Yes I am a sick man, yes there is no cure :-(

I just went out tonight and bought a 164. I've been without an Alfa since may 2015.

Could not resist - price was right and I have a space for it so it can get some work and get on the road with club plates:-)

Pick it up on the weekend - pictures to follow.

Besides - my Wife has been nagging me about what I wanted for Fathers Day :-)

Catch ya

Shane

Bravo Shane,
you've done well, as there's this 'crazy' teenager in Melbourne who has been snapping them all up over the past couple of years.... Autos , Q's , you name it he buys them. Quite an impressive collection.

Anyway, great car a ripper engine and better looks coupled with spirited performance  than most 4 door saloons of 25 plus years.

Shane
The diagnosis is you have the Alfa Romeo love bug virus and it is impossible to cure.
cheers

That's awesome to hear Shane! Please do post some pictures, it is great to see another member here with another 164. Yes I am that crazy teenager with too many 164's!

Many people overlook them because they are FWD and a bit heavier than all the rest, but a well sorted 164 handles beautifully and goes like you wouldn't believe.

Good luck with the project and let us know how you get on!

Cheers, Andrew.

GTVeloce

It wasn't the white one I was thinking of buying Shane?!?

shane wescott

Yes GTVeloce it was probably the white one you were thinking of buying :-) Too cheap to say no once I looked at it.

And I think the crazy teenager will get taken out for an appropriate beverage so I can pick his brain on this new breed for me.

Yes I know its FWD, Yes I know its an auto, but apart from that, it still has the right badge and If I can get it on club plates for a reasonable investment then I will be happy to have something to drive around again.

I will be wary of the scenario I had last time where my GTV6 and my Ducati fought like teenagers over who got the most attention.

This Alfa will very quickly be put in it's place, it's not a patch on my ST2 Ducati :-)

Looking forward to getting my hands dirty.

More than willing to help out with your new car! I can even bring one of mine along and take you for a drive if you wish.

Main things to focus on with these cars is the timing belt. Make sure you get it changed along with the other bits and pieces including the water pump and idler bearing.

Other problem areas include the stepper motor gears for the interior fan. They usually strip out because they are plastic, meaning you cannot select which vents you want the air to come out of.

Finally keep an eye out for power steering leaks, as the seals in the power steering rack tend to go bad and can be an issue to replace.

Parts are pretty easy to obtain with great companies such as Italian Automotive Spares providing almost every consumable for the 164.

As I said earlier, more than happy to help out. Just send me a message and I'll get back to you.

Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks for the tips V AR 164.

I know I have power steering issues, so working on them first. The engine is running rough through some of the rev range so that will be the next thing.

Picking it up Saturday so pictures and a "Project 164" post will be up Saturday night :-)

Looking forward to catching up.

Regards

Shane
