156 wheel bolts

Hi guys, I'm wanting to fit 2000 spider 16 inch alloys on my 156. Problem is that the offset is different therefore the original bolts aren't long enough. Will the bolts from a spider do the job or do I need to get longer aftermarket bolts?

I wasn't exactly going the opposite of your issue.

I had after market 17" wheels that I was taking off, and replacing with original 16's on the GTV.

So in a way, I was doing exactly what you are doing, and the issue is the same. The bolts were not long enough.

Check for your situation, but as detailed in that thread, I ended up getting 37mm long bolts.

Also ensure that the center bore is the same, and if not, get an adapter ring to compensate. Do NOT just let the bolts do the work.

EDIT: BTW just to point out, it is wheel design that impacts the bolt length requirement, not offset. Semantics I know   But it is possible to have 2 very different offsets use the same bolt length, if the recesses for the bolts in the wheel allow.
Likewise, it is possible for 2 wheels with the SAME offset, to require different length bolts depending on the design of the recesses for the bolts/nuts.

Offset is simply the difference between the exact centre of the wheel (side profile) and the contact face that connects to the hub of the car. Or words to that effect.

I have done this to my 156, the wheel nuts from a old Sud are the right length. I got one of those and then went and ordered new ones from Autobarn

I got mine from my local Auto1. They ordered them in but had them in stock within 3 days from memory. Wasn't expensive either.
