I have a 2007 model with only 61000 kms and the dash has started flashing the gearbox symbol with the message "have gearbox checked" and it will now only change up and down from 1st to 3rd gear (both manual and automatic? Is this just an electrical fault? Is it worth disconnecting the battery to reset the computer or will this cause more problems?

The car is in "Limp Home Mode" due to an error in the Selespeed management system, and this is usually caused by a faulty sensor. It is doubtful that a battery disconnect will do much.

Needs to be connected to the diagnostics to reveal what has caused the error.

Thanks for that. It's put my mind at rest. I thought it might only be a sensor issue but I had a repairer in Adelaide telling me I might be in for another transmission! I've spoken to "Alfa Men" in Brooklyn VIC. who have experienced this issue before so all I have to do now is get the car there by transport 460kms.
