Before Bazzbazz asks ... Coincidentally, I was in Melbourne yesterday but it wasn't me!

But a real shame, I feel for the owner. Looks like a similar issue to the one that I had.

Can almost guarantee it's a V6, and am pretty confident to say it would have been a leaking fuel issue. Always check your fuel lines, make sure they are fresh and haven't gone hard. Also check that all the clamps are tight and are not leaking. If in doubt, change them.
I have had some close calls too when it comes to fuel lines leaking...

Always carry a fire extinguisher too, I have one in the passenger footwell just in case that happens. Can never be too careful.

But yes, I do feel for the owner and hope he had insurance.

Seems to be a tradition on here that an Alfa catches fire every couple years  ::) sorry poohbah!

Yep, first thing I did when buying my current Alfas was buy fire extinguishers and mount them in the passenger footwell.

thats an inherent problem with all V motors
and flat motors if you get a fuel leak it pools
and my sud did this, very very sad
just finished the restoration and the brass tube insert to the carby
fell out !! can you believe it
burnt the bonnet and top off guards Everybody just watched as I pleaded for a garden hose
this happens to to the v6's in the cold winter, you did the work in summer
the tubes shrink in the cold and all of a sudden you have injector leaks
check your connections the next cold morning
