ANY GIULIA SUPER LOCKSMITHS OUT THERE
« on: February 07, 2017, 11:36:47 AM »
I have just picked up a 68 giulia super i have been chasing for 20 odd years and the key goes in and out of the ign barrel no probs but from sitting for so long i cant turn the key hence steering lock is on.I have wiggled gently as if to release the wheel but no go--i havent tried anything down the barrel etc and wondering if graphite powder is the go or other product?
Next question which i dread doing--ign removal--how hard etc
Thanks in adv for any info

Sedan ownership - final destination of all erudite 105 fanciers !

You've probably tried this, but if there's significant tension on the steering wheel against the lock detent the key will be unable to turn,  you have to turn the steering wheel enough to take the tension off the lock detent and then the barrel will be able to turn (and pull the detent back out of the way)

Otherwise I'd try a little graphite powder and running the key in and out to jiggle the pins free.  Progress to WD40 if no luck :D

To remove the ignition barrel you have to undo and remove the cowling,  then you will see a dome headed pin on the top of the barrel holding it in.  It's actually a machine screw and you'll need to find a way to grip it or tap it around with a small chisel.

It's definitely the right key ?  :D

Good luck !

My guess is the barrel is rooted. I went through 5 ignition assemblies to find one that was not busted for my Super. My old lock actually took a bit of a gentle touch where it had to be slightly withdrawn before it turned. Bit of a Fonzie Wurlitzer thing. My form of theft prevention...

Yep definately wiggling steering wheel etc-even jacked up so wheels off the ground so little resistance-thought there might have been the old"just do this she'll be right"--positive thinking eh

Hope you get the lock sorted out.

Not sure which exact barrel they use but is there a repo version available from any of the OS suppliers?

Also, tell us what/where/when of your Giulia? Chased for 20 years, gotta be a story there...

Throw up some pics too!

Cheers,

Paul.

Carlo, fairly sure that I have an ignition lock/barrel in the collection.
