I've been told the strut can be re-gassed? That said I haven't found anywhere yet which has confirmed that is possible/cost effective.

I have had them regassed but they always pressurise them too much so the hatch just about takes your head off when you open it.  You can't just let it go up as you should be able to.

Anti-theft device ;D Oh wait, could be accused of execesive use of force ???

Regardless, if you can just bolt in a replacement for under $50, probably not much point getting a regas.

A re-gas doesn't last for ever, and would probably cost $50 minimum these days so the replacement option sounds like good value.

I grabbed a strut for my GT from this ebay seller, no dramas seems to be fine.

This ebay seller would have a very good idea of how many Alfetta coupes are still around & being used!  Thumbs up from me!
