For the 2nd time in two years I've had to remove chunks of metal from my gearbox. Something is obviously breaking up.  Anyone have torque setting for gearbox end cap bolts? I've done them up just snug but not really tight.

I'm thinking of dismantling and old hard disk and sticking the earth magnets on the outside of the box to catch stuff

How big are the chunks (pics)?

Aluminium isn't (typically) magnetic ie. It's not going to stick.
If something is sticking to your magnets it's more likely to be from the gears/synchro etc.

Will glue the magnet to outside. Bits are alloy about 8mm x 2mm. Not sure where I put the peice unfortunately.

This is almost identical to the part that came out 12 months ago.
It's metal as it sticks to a magnet.

I don't drive it hard, the only time the gearbox cops it is when I attempt to shift from 3rd to 2nd at the same time as the computer has done it so it then slams into 1st, this actually happens once every 3 months or so.
