Hi all,

ok, so I found a car that I am currently negotiating buying.

From my brief research I found, that the Diesel (and probably petrol versions, as well) can be quite pricey to keep in tip top shape if you use the official dealer network and their outrageous pricing structure.

In regards to the car at hand:

DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) make a hell of a racket
EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation Valve) is believed to have gunked up due to short commutes
Swirl valves need cleaning, but have been updated with the lates version a few years back.

Good source of info on that I found:

Engine management light (EML) lit, high fuel consumption, rough idling, rough running, poor power and torque, smoking from exhaust, error P2279-11 Intake system air leak,P2075 fault code?

The bearing bushes on the swirl flap operating rod wear and the rod pops off causing the symptoms noted above.

I made myself a little picture book on Photobucket.com with service part no and pricing if sourced from the UK as seems to be the go if you need more than one part... 8) :o

I was to make myself an Excel spreadsheet with part numbers and prices for local and overseas suppliers.
Not sure if that would be of interest to others on here?

I will report back when a deal has been struck and go into detail how I plan on bringing the car back to scratch.
I have ideas of deleting EGR and DPF (Diesel Particle Filter) and having them programmed out of the ECU.... :)

Still grateful for any tips, hints, pointers and advice that more seasoned owners and people in the know might have.
Thanks and best regards

Hi, I have a 159 2.4 JTDM. The only issues I've had with mine is the EGR (about $700 plus fitting) and a glow plug.

Apparently, the EGR is a known issue and it's been redesigned to improve reliability.

Mine's got 134,000K and it's still going well.

Are you thinking of doing the same?

Blurp from his web site:

What to expect:
EGR shutt of -> no more jerking, less fuel consumption, longer engine life!
DPF regeneration turned off for DPF-removal, or
extented intervalls – more than 100% -> less fuel consumption, more power, extended oil-change intervalls
optimiziations for less fuel consumption, better driveability
tuning of course, in all ranges -> the torque curves shown here are proposals
Gearbox / Clutch protection -> less torque in lower gears and max. torque in high gears
I will make individual maps depending on your wishes
Thanks and best regards

if there was a one stop shop that did it here in aus, definitely.

Hey Redem,

just saw you are in Sydney.

Otherwise I would have suggested we join force?.
The blanking plates shouldn't be hard to do and apparently the re-programming is relatively straight forward, as well.

Would have saved us to buy the hardware twice. But than again, I could always ship the cables and CD up to Sydney after I am done and talk you through it?

tbh not all that keen on doin it myself. as alluded to in my previous post, if there were a workshop that did the complete egr blanking, dpf removal and associated ecu flash all in one i would go for it.

but if you do go ahead with it would be interested to know the outcome. you could become the sme in aus on the issue.

SME? I found 81 meanings for that....

http://www.acronymfinder.com/SME.html

Sistema Monetario Europeo (Italian)? :-\
Senior Management Executive? :P
Small and Medium Enterprises? ;)
Special Minister of the Eucharist ;D

But happy to be a trial blazer if all goes to plan. Has no one here done this, yet?
Thanks and best regards
