Hey guys would anybody be able to direct me to a link where someone has dropped a 3.0 engine from a 164 12v into a gtv6?  Thinking of doing it soon and would like to know what parts I will need and how to go about it all:-) anyone willing to share knowledge on this will be much appreciated:-)

What do people do with their old 2.5...?

Thanks guys for the help!
The one thing I am concerned about is the 164 throttle body and intakes, will they fit under hood of the gtv6 easily?

The doc from the alfagtv6.com site is what most people follow (myself included) and I kept it simple - used the plenum etc from the 2.5 as well as kept the L-jet (he didn't). this was also kind of forced upon me as I got an engine that didn't have this running gear. This is not conducive to getting the ultimate power from the 3.0. I know this and accept this and it is still bags of fun. It is a question of what you think you can achieve against what you might like but possibly won't achieve.

That said, I think it can be done - I am sure there are examples (check alfabb.com and alfagtv6.com) out there but I would have gone the path I travelled anyway as this is my first foray into th land of engine build/swap.

My build thread if you haven't already seen it... I may have already asked some of the questions you are thinking of...

Hi Stefan,

Been a long time since I did this (1996).  But the simple answer is that you strip the 164 engine to a long motor (less sump and water pump) and then build it up again using the GTV6 parts.

Two main area's to watch out for.  The 4mm spacer mentioned on the flywheel, and the distributor / oil pump drive which has different gearing between the two engines, at least on some 164 engines.  In my case that last one necessitated removing the right hand head.  Oh - you need to balance the GTV6 flywheel and front pulley to match the ones off the 164.

Its not a complicated process, just take your time, follow that GTV6 guide, and if you get stuck post a question and you'll get quick answers.  Have fun :)
