LAKESIDE HOSTS ITALIAN CHALLENGE RACE SERIES

A stunning selection of Queensland's hottest Italian racing cars will grid up this Saturday, February 23 for round one of the inaugural Italian Challenge Race Series.

This new intermarque Italian race series will be run over four rounds, all at Queensland's legendary Lakeside Raceway, as part of the circuit's Top Gear racing format. It is believed to be the first multi-manufacturer, all Italian race series ever held in Australia.

Almost a million dollars worth of Italian racing hardware will line up, with ten Alfa Romeos, three Ferraris a Maserati Ghibli and a Fiat 124 making up the field.

Red hot favourite Charlie Clements will lead the charge in his gorgeous Ferrari 308 GTB, closely followed by good mate Trevor Bassett in a ferocious, V12-powered Ferrari 365 GTC4. These two experienced campaigners have battled at race circuits all over Australia and are sure to thrill the Lakeside faithful with their scintillating straight-line speed.

Where the Ferraris let it rip down the straight, touching speeds up to 240kph, the Alfa Romeos will make up ground through the tight corners of the Karussell and the Eastern Loop. Watch out for the Alfetta GTVs of Joel O'Farrell, Rob Robson and Col Wenzel and the 105s of Ken Percival and Michael Heeremans to keep the Ferraris honest. Throw into the mix the unknown quantity that is the Maserati Ghibli of experienced racer/instructor Bruce Horey and we're in for a superb, action-packed day of racing.

The remaining three rounds of the 2013 Italian Challenge Race Series will take place at Lakeside Raceway on Sunday, April 7, Sunday, May 5 and Sunday, September 8. Several top cars are expected to be ready for April 7 including Phill Powell's Ferrari 308 GT4, Brent Hampstead's Alfa Giulietta sports sedan, John Coleman's very quick Alfa 75 and Michael Heeremans' brand new Alfa Giulia special.
