Title: Photos of just GTV 105's
Post by: Silver105 on June 14, 2010, 11:13:25 PM
What about we create a thread for posting just photos of Australian 105's ... much like the one on alfabb.com.

Kids have named the car "Alfie" which seems a little odd when I have always thought of 105's as sexy females given the curves..

Lets see what great 105 cars we have in OZ

Cheers
JJ

And yes the wheels need to go....  I think I will spend some time in photoshop, now where are some shots of mini-lites?

Cheers,

A stepnose 105 with those wheels....OMG.... mini lites or orginal steel rims are a must.... you'll have to post new photos once you get them. Looks nice from the front, what is the plan for the car ?

Car must of been sleeping around ( espically with Saab's) to end up with those wheels. But it looks like its got real character.

Jeeze talk about a reaction!    :o

It's not original, yes the wheels need to go, and yes they are going.....

Anyways the intentions:
- occasional sprint
- occasional tarmac(too low for anything else) club event

The list of mods(completed at time of back to metal resto in 2001/2002:
  - Koni shocks
  - thicker swaybars
  - slightly lower than normal
  - battery is in the boot
  - Battery isolation switch
  - period correct(or close, ie. 70's) intermittent wiper control
  - wheel nuts all converted to RH
  - bicycle speedo for accurate KPH (and yes it does go to 160Kph... or so I am told).
  - Engineering Cert to a 2 seater with 4 point harnesses
  - Completely re-wired with new fuz box, relays etc.  So at least the electrics are pretty reliable.

The suspect list:
- Brake booster removed, $#%@ Bonaldi unit, just run without it, and I push harder.... it's amazing what you can do with a bit of adrenaline.
- Clutch - was sus from when the car was re-built - probably not helped by an oil leak or two
- Tacho needle fell off - and both the tacho cable and speedo cable(found out about this today) need to be replaced(I have the tacho cable in stock - but putting it off as it is a $#%# of a job)
- Door hinges (and the retention straps, yes the doors are marked... :()h
- Boot seal
- a little bit of visible rust around the step nose and in the odd other spot.

It will never be a concourse winner, but it is good fun (in the dry). A little scary in the wet, I just don't go around corners very fast in the wet.

Cheers,
AP
P.S. This is my 4th Alfa, 3 Alfetta Sedans previously, 78, 81, and 84(Motronic injected with Variable inlet timing).  They had a habit of spitting sun gears, from an over zealous application of the right foot...

Mr Bing...

nice car :)

quick question. I noticed in your pic that you have a slight dip to the car on the rear nearside. Is this just the way the pic was taken or is this actually the case.  I ask because mine does the same thing and I was wondering if this was just how they are or if the they have a common issue.

cheers

Hi Krishnan,
I see your car once in a while parked in Port Melbourne near Bunnings on Bridge street. If you wondered who that bloke is pulling over to check it out - it was me, your GTV looks really good mate, nice to see it in the flesh post restoration. When I get mine back on the road in 2047 Ill stop and have a chat  :)

Hi guys here is a photo of my '69 1750 GTV that I bought back in mid 1997, from Shannons in Melbourne and then used as my daily driver for 12 years before deciding to park it, pending its full restoration.   It is basically sound but the rust was starting to get somewhat nasty in the doors, the bootlid, front of cills, rear wheel arches, etc.  Plus the paint is stuffed, cracking, falling off, micro blistering.  The engine is good, the gearbox will require rebuilding, the interior is tired, the suspension mostly good, including Koni yellows.   The good thing is that it can talk Italian to my '69 Fiat AC 124 sport, which is 2/3rds restored and stored in the lockup garage, and at least both cars are out of the weather.

I put the recent photos I have of the GTV on photobucket but for some reason only this one posted across.  Damn.  I just don't get it why the AROCA webforum can't use the same sort of system that other forums do, as I never have problems posting multiple photos, but for some reason here the format is too large.  Most annoying, and especially for some such as me who is completely useless at computer technologies  ;D .  Oh well at least you can guage what condition it is basically in.

Yep know what you mean Gully.  Just wish mine looked (and was in a lot better condition :( ).

For sure most unusal Scott but the stitching was not of my doing.  It was like it when I bought the car.  When I do get around to this one, I suspect it might be time for the dash to have a visit to the Dashboard Doctor to fix it back to standard appearance.  I suspect it was a quick/cheap fix to hide the cracks in the dash.

Couple of our pics from last weekend, anybody know this car.. :)

I'm really interested in this blue GTV spotted at Brisbanes Lakeside raceway event on the weekend.  Its gorgeous (perhaps a tad dark).. Does anybody know the owner and/or what actual colour it is??

I'm hoping it's AR349 pervincia/periwinkle blu.. I the flesh.. as the Duetto is not going back to AR514  :) (sorry)  ;D

It's Blu Pervinca alright (pervinca means "winning", I believe), though on my screen the colour looks a little lighter than I'd expect...
My car is the same colour, so I'm comparing apples with apples.

It's a great colour alright - I often get comments about mine - and not much of a blue-light magnet  ;).

Hi guys, my Google translation of (Italian) Pervinca says "Periwinkle".
My original 1973 105 GTV was the same colour as the 1974 105 GTV I now have - pics in this post (P3).
I have found this site:-
http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/aclchip.aspx?image=1972-alfaromeo-pg01.jpg
which lists the AR349 colour in 1972 - and the same as my 1973 and 1974 GTV's. The 105 in the Lakeside pic appears lighter.

Cheers Polyal.  There is a LM Blue car here in QLD that has the black interior and looks fabulous.  The owner races it regularly.  Looking at your initial introduction post, you have some work to do, but I think that is half the enjoyment of owning these cars!  All the best with the project.  ;)

Hi to all,

I haven't spent much time on here due to work comittments this last month but today I am relaxing and thought I would post some shots of my latest addition - a 1973 2 litre GTV. Some of the shots were professionally taken by the previous owner, I took the rest on the iphone when we got it and then again this week once I got the Momo Vega's put on - even took it to work on Thursday in the rain, a joy to drive. Haven't spent too time on it yet but wanted the new wheels on asap. Looks a little high to me but...we'll see.

I got reasonable history with the car, body was redone some 10 yrs ago by the looks of it - and a pile of mechanical receipts dating back some 7 years. It is very tidy, needs some cosmetic type work though but mechanically very, very good.

All the best to everyone for Xmas and thanks for the keeping the forum alive.

Cheers

Emmanuel

This thread has been very quiet....are there no 105 GTVs changing hands?

Anyway here is another new addition recently acquired. Picked it up from an elderly gent from Central Coast NSW, he had owned it 27 years. I haven't taken anymore pics yet, will add when I do.......mag wheels aren't staying (they will be for sale), going back to the original wheels that came with the car. Most of you know the colour is Piper Yellow. Model year is 1972, 2litre.

Car is very solid and well kept, though paint has some blistering (not rust related but still...) everything else is in good to great condition.

Cheers

Emmanuel

I haven't taken anymore pics yet, will add when I do.......mag wheels aren't staying (they will be for sale), going back to the original wheels that came with the car. Most of you know the colour is Piper Yellow. Model year is 1972, 2litre.

Car is very solid and well kept, though paint has some blistering (not rust related but still...) everything else is in good to great condition.

Cheers

Emmanuel

Nice car Emmanuel!  And a great period colour for these cars.  I'm a real fan of the period colours for these cars.  Some of the Montreal ones challenge us now but the 105 coupes like this one look great.  It's amazing how many colours Alfa offered, not all of which came to Australia of course.

Thanks,

agree totally mate - I love the period colours in fact, true some might not work on todays cars but we have to accept the choices of the era, these are products of their time after all. Some of the period colours I saw at last weeks show in Essen proved they weren't shy in their time.......

I love the Montreal in orange though.........

I notice the latest Porsches, Mercs, BM's et al offering metallic browns as an example - again a period colour in my book. So who knows...?

Lets try and get more people to list their 105 Coupes...always intersting to see colour combos, individual set ups etc..

Not my car, but have kept an eye on it for many years.  It belongs to a guy I know who used it as his Targa Tas car, until he built up a newer one. This one got canabalised but just sits in my mechanic's workshop.

Sad sad sad.  I'm sure Mr Pancho would love to sell a new owner all the missing parts to put this one back on the road!

I agree, hence have been keeping an eye on it.  It is well known down here, and if you saw any of the early Targa videos there is footage of this car.  The owner hasn't been well (big C) amongst many things and had a messy divorce etc. His new race car sits on the hoist next to this one, it too has been there for quite a few years.  I don't know what his plans are for the GT Veloce, but as a shell whilst tired, it still is log booked, and has a 1/2 alloy cage, and thankfully much of the original jewelry.  It certainly could be rebuilt.  See another pic of it from the rear.

Hope someone picks them up at some stage and gets them on the road again but must wish the owner the very best as well.  Most of us have had friends go through that.

Funny though isnt it how those early targa cars are starting to pop up more often these days.  The event really has a history of its own these days.

Yes quite correct aggie on both accounts.  Now for some nicer condition cars.  Both were on display at the National Motor Museum in Launceston during the Turismo Tas.  I don't know who owns the giallo ochre 1750 S2 but the red 2L belongs to Mark Baigent.

Thanks Dave!
I've learnt a hell of a lot doing this one - but realistically it's not as huge a job as some of the resto's over on the BB – I barely had to touch the floorpans and the sills weren't a total replacement on the worst side, and the driver's side only needed the front section dealt with!
Here's some more pics:
Passenger's side inner sill:

Great stuff, it's a credit to you, looking forward to the next installment.

I think I read that you're putting in a warmed up 1750, what mods have you done/plan to do and how's it coming along?

I think I might also have read that at one stage you were going down the Twinspark route...if so, what made you change your mind to the 1750?

Dave

Contemplated doing the TS when I popped the head gasket - but at the time I didn't have the cash to do it - so I went down the path of hotting up the 1750 - big valves, got stuck in with the die-grinder, custom cams...
Doing a dual circuit manual brake conversion that uses a single tandem master - should be a pretty good thing - certainly tidys the engine bay up a bunch.
2l LSD, 2L brakes at both ends, Knuckle risers, shortened Berlina rear springs, stock front - pretty basic, but an absolute riot to drive.

Sensational LaStreg! Your thread on Performance Forums has been an inspiration. The car looks awesome, amazing how much you've got done - to a very high standard - in such a short time. Having a deadline, seems to be key to not having a restoration languishing in the shed for years. Congrats on the wedding, by the way.

Would love to see more pics of the interior, engine bay, everything really...oooh and some video of you driving some twisties would be real nice too.

If you want to do another one let me know...I can have it on a truck tomorrow  :)

Thanks Dave! Yeah - it was awesome fun - although it was hard work to hold it on the limit... Had a go in my mates 67 SWB 911 - that thing was just so easy (untill you ran out of steering lock), but kinda felt doughy compared to the 105...

I've mostly come to grips with RACQ bending the car, but I'm well down the path of getting it sorted out...
