Title: Magnetic Door Number for Racing Number
Post by: Alfatango on January 11, 2021, 05:55:29 PM
Hi has anyone used one for this for CAMS Motorsport Events? Do they pass scrutineering? Do they leave any marks on the car?

I don't know if they pass scrutineering.  It's a long time since I was on the track.

But if you don't need the background, I'd be more inclined to just buy vinyl numbers and stick them straight onto the doors.   If the paint is good, with a good coat of wax, the stickers should come off cleanly.  No chance of them falling off, or moving and scratching the paint

$45.00 plus postage buys a lot of vinyl numbers and you still have to buy the numbers to apply to the magnetic background anyway.

I have seen magnetic signage get blown off sedans at Phillip Island and Sandown.  Car is usually black flagged.
Usually need to demonstrate to the Chief Scrutineer the backing panels are secure and wont become a hazard to other cars.
White adhesive numbers on side widows are typically more popular.
The Sup Regs for the event usually define car numbering.
AROCA (Vic) sells numbers for $3 each - on average around 20 < 30 per event!

I use to cut from a sheet of magnetic vinyl and the race tape edges to prevent losing them, also cut the numbers from a roll adhesive vinyl sheet

Numbers are usually available at all AROCA (Vic) Sprint events.  Normally available for purchase at "Check In" between 07:00 - 09:00.

Old thread, but I use a magnetic vinyl sheet when I take our road car on the track. I put a single vertical strip of electrical tape on the leading edges so they don't blow off. I give them a wash before use to ensure no scratches. Seems to work fine and looks neat in my opinion.
