Hi all,
About to put the head back on my rebuilt berlina 2L engine. It had nothing keeping the o rings in place and all were in good condition. Does anyone in Australia stock the hollow brass pins I've seen online to keep the o rings from collapsing inwards? Or if I were to use a roll pin, do I have to enlarge the hole so there is no restriction of the oil passage? I'd prefer a method that didn't require drilling my block or head.
Thanks Mark
I've not heard of using brass hollow, steel roll pins are proven to work. They are widely available through the internet Alfa parts suppliers. Make sure you use Viton o-rings not the Nitrol ones supplied in head gasket kits. Another tip is to install the pins with the split facing the cylinders and not facing outwards. Knock them in 1-2 mm above the O-rings, when the head is bolted in it will press them down to correct height. Cheers. John
Thanks John, I have found international suppliers but nothing local. Was trying to avoid paying postage for six o rings and pins. Might just have to order some other parts while im at it.
I bit the bullet and ordered a set of these from California. Probably over engineered now but I'm going to sleep easier knowing it won't leak from my o rings. I believe they just slide into original oil gallery. US25$ including 6 viton o rings.
Hi, can you share the vendors site?
hi Jayarr, sorry didn't see your reply till just now. Here is their website. I rang and they were happy to help. I've installed mine now, was very easy, and I'm confident they won't be the source of future leaks. No drilling required, they fit snug into the factory oil galleries. They came with 6 o rings too. Just the standard round profile type.
