Title: 164 oil change
Post by: fazz164 on September 07, 2020, 08:58:53 AM
Greetings All. Can some one please advise the correct engine oil for my 1992 164 Q, mineral or synthetic. How much did you use? I read oil capacity is 7.5 litres. Also, is the correct oil filter, Ryco Z723?
I'd like to use a trolley jack & 2 jack stands so I get a good, safe look underneath. Can I also have advice as to where I should safely position jack & stands?
Cheers, Rob

Around 6.5 litres I find. I use 10w-40 full synthetic. I find it works well in my engine but some with higher kms might run better with a 15w-50.

Z723 is for the standard 164's from 89' to 91'. The Q's have an oil cooler and take a Z89A which is a smaller filter in length.

Use a trolley jack underneath the front tow hook. Jack stands go underneath the side skirts where the factory lift points are (under the flap).

Andrew.

Oil change done, replaced the std oil filter with the smaller filter as recommended (Thanks Andrew) which made replacement easier. Car now booked in for a timing belt, water pump and tensioner replacement.

  Thanks again.
