Post by: cc on January 14, 2020, 12:39:38 PM
Hi all
Am hopefully getting the engine back into the spider soon. While its out its probably a good idea to check the starter motor .
I havent pulled one of these apart.. Any tips on what to do?

was put onto a chap who refurbs starters in his back garage by Brett who i had rung to check if it was ok to run the engine before he re charged the air con (is ok to do).

The starters brushes were in need of replacement, also described as having 'dry' bearings. Picking it up today as well as dropping off the old alternator.

Have already installed the new alternator but will be nice to give the old alternator an overhaul and to have it on the shelf : )

A few hours later...

Have picked it up, the brushes were on their last legs & learnt that when bearings are dry  they spin more freely; a sign hey are also on the way out (bearings replaced). A feature of the old alternator i dropped off.

All up parts & labour: $60. Same charge for an alternator.

The chap also does re winds. He gets work from interstate too. He is in Sunnybank Brisbane. If you would like his contact details. please personal message me.
I paid $180 4 years ago to have an alternator overhauled in Archerfield....
