Title: GTV Suspension Recommendations
Post by: koz2312 on July 13, 2019, 01:39:57 AM
Hi, replacing my Eibach/Koni Setup on a 01 GTV 3.0. Would anyone have any recommendations for a softer ride? Current setup (probably over 80000km old) is very uncomfortable over bumps and tends to bottom out. Considering going to original springs/shocks but finding hard to find local.

Cheers

I did a bit of research on this a couple of months back, quite a few owners in the UK who had tried different combinations recommended Suplex springs with Koni STRT shock absorbers at the front. This set up they say provides a ride close to the factory original.

My car, phase 2 2001 3.0 GTV was regularly bottoming out and my Alfa specialist reported that it was lower on one side with a possible collapsed Spring. I replaced the front springs with Suplex and installed new bump stops and it doesn't bottom out any more (the old bump stops were ruined). Does it not bottom out because of the new springs or the new bump stops? That I don't know for sure, my guess - a combination of the 2. The car is still waiting for the new STRTs, the money for those was spent on my sons 147 after an outing at Winton (another story).

As much as I would like to have bought the parts locally, I didn't, the springs came from Alfa Workshop UK. Local suppliers of Koni are price competitive but will order them from Holland I think. Toperformance are suppliers of Koni in Mebourne and have been recommended by others on this forum. I can vouch for their customer service.

I hope this helps, great car, don't let the poor ride spoil it!!
