ok rather than spend $2000 for removal and balance i found a you tube on how to balance insitu
basically buy 2 70mm screw clamps
start engine get your mate to rev it to where it vibrates around 2100rpm
on a hoist get some chalk and very gently introduce it so that it just touches
turn motor off
put screw clamps on and place the screw section 180 degrees opposite chalk marks
restart engine does it feel different? then to improve adjust in 3cm increments one of the braces
worse go other direction
better but still there move it 1cm either direction marking it last location
stat again and test
after4 or 5 times you will be very close
enjoy
Got a link to the you tube?
Sounds interesting where do you get the braces from

i used my own modified version of this
it works
the braces from bunnings
You had me a little confused there, don't you mean 70mm hose clamps?
THIS is a speedbrace -

Yeh brain snap no idea why
Screw clamps ala hose clamps
Ps i got it very close and then i took one off perfect
Just out of curiosity, did you use the same water & cup method as an indicator.
No just the feel of it st around 2000rpm
When i got close i took it for a drive
Didnt really have the interest in the water method no time to build jig off the centre bearing
But it would be the best for the ultimate fine tune
might look at it down the track
how did you go
Looks like a good option for those who don't want to spend 2k on a balance
If necessity is the mother of invention, then surely desperation is the father of it, for I have seen men with a necessity be very clever, yet wondered at how the desperate are driven to be downright bloody brilliant! - Baz
;)
It appears the US tolerances are not as close as alfa '
so only use 1 clamp on the engine half of the tail shaft
Im finally enjoying a smooth ride after almost 8 years
