Title: Torque 1975
Post by: poohbah on February 13, 2019, 08:05:26 PM
Loved this program as a kid.

Can you imagine anyone doing a test like this - off road - today for a modern road car? Wherrett does some good old fashioned bush-bashing.

The one where he rallies the daihatsu is great as well.

The various top gears have done their share of track testing for new cars, I found fifth gear the most informative, but I think the whole car review segment is a bit fatigued these days.

As a follow up.....

Here is a test of a Valiant Charger circa 1974.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6yAozhmp6E

If you don't want to watch all 9 minutes (who does!) watch from 9.21 as he turns into the Brian Foley car park.

You will see a white Giulia SS sitting in the back (look to the right).

I wonder who has that car now? Seems to be white so could have been the car Cliff Bills owned down here in Melbourne.

Anyone know the story?

Cheers,

Paul.

Haven't seen autodelta, but you can YT a 1980 episode where he compares a Sud Sprint with a 280ZX. Liked the way it performed, but he gave the usual spray about driving position.

I had a 265 CI Charger 770 as my second car. People said they were much better than the V8s (not counting the 340 version). Love that fish scale dash!

I was blown into the weeds while in it on some twisties on the Pacific Highway by a 1750 GTV.

Yup... was fast in a straight line, but didn't really like to stop or go around corners...

Had a 265 Hemi VG Safari Wagon when I was a student. It was pretty quick but could get a bit loose round the back when you floored it.
