Slim pickings but there are a few nice roads. Most are marred by horridly low speed limits designed for the lowest common denominator.

But yes, the Perth Hills is a wonderful area. Moving here was the best choice of my life.

This area is The Perth Hills. The most famous road would be the Zig Zags which is a 1 way switch back down the side of the hill, that used to be a steam freight railway for the logging trade I believe.

It's a 40K zone and always has walkers and cyclists (going the wrong way gggrrrrrrr) but still a nice scenic drive. Not the place to be a hero and as I am now local to the area, I treat it with even more respect that I used to because I know the amount of people who walk on it.

Here's a normal drive down it.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpWYxteTGyQ (this was just a camera/microphone test before my UK Porsche 997 trip)

However...the Zig Zags are driven the opposite way as a "Hill Climb" as part of the Targa West Rally. Closed road for that of course, but here's some footage from this years 2nd place car, shooting up it.

I really want to enter this one year, but watching a top driver do this leg (and other legs) scares the crap out of me now lol.

Chris,
thanks from a Perth based Alfa addict. I really enjoyed the video, especially because I just picked up a 2002 TS Spider. I have some work to do before it's finally sorted, but am looking forward to really seeing what a modern "Alfa" is like. Cheers Vne

Thank you for your kind words re the video. Just a bit of fun really, for my own amusement more than anything else, but it's always nice to know that others enjoy watching.

Enjoy the TS. Such great cars! I Highly recommend joining the WA Alfa Club if you're not a member already, if for nothing else, but to join in with the annual Pasta Run :)

Just took the 116 GTV down the Zig Zags - what an amazing stretch of road. Can't believe I had never heard of it before your post Chris, given I grew up in Perth.

Also can't believe they use that on Targa West - would be terrifying at speed!. I had to have two goes at the last switchback its so tight - not game to try a handbrake turn ...

Great photo!

Mate if you're ever in the area, hit me up.

PMing you my number.

Any excuse for a drive :)

PS: Do you need a co-driver for Pasta Run this year? I'm out of Italian cars lol

Cheers mate, will do that for sure next time.

And could use a co driver next Pasta Run.

PS - Another good (short) stretch where you can have a bit more Gusto is the road up to the Bells Rapids Lookout.

And Chittering Rd-Julimar Rd that nicks up the back way into Toodyay.
