Title: TomTom Blue&Me 2 battery
Post by: Bear157 on January 15, 2017, 08:32:41 PM
Anyone had to replace the battery on their TomTom Blue&Me 2 yet? The one that came with my Giulietta QV will not recharge and only works whilst in cradle or connected to cable. Of course, this would be fine except you cannot take it out of the cradle to program it (one of the features of having the dash mounted vs the newer in dash models) and it seems to lose it's pairing with the car, but retains pairing with the iPhone.

I contacted TomTom and they said I have to go through Alfa dealer, but when I then contacted two Alfa dealers (Armstrong in Toowoomba and Euromarque in Brisbane), who both, incidentally, told me that they were no longer selling Alfa's, said they had no idea. I imagine it is one of the main TomTom units that have just specialised software for Alfa and Fiat cars. There are heaps of YouTube how too's, but none for the Blue&Me, so interested to see how others have gone. It would seem a shame to have to buy a whole new unit just for a battery.

Cheers

Rob

Just an update. I have moved to Toowoomba, so I've had to change mechanics to service the QV. I've now changed over to Humphreys in Toowoomba (very happy first time round btw) and just next door to them is a group who specialise in electronics, and given I can claim all repairs etc done to the car (because the TomTom is an integrated part of the car and is loaded with Alfa Romeo specific OS it qualifies), I've dropped it into them to fit the new battery. They assure me it will be ready tomorrow...I'll update how that goes because as the Giuliettas and Mitos fitted with the TomToms get a tad older, this is going to become a common issue.

I just bought a brand new TomTom Blue & Me 2, I assume the previous owner kept the original Blue & Me 1.

Anyhow, because the Blue & Me TomTom 2 is based on the TomTom Go 1000, you can buy replacement batteries on eBay fairly cheap.

Below I've included a link to a suitable battery, it's only $15.00AUD:

Sorry, just realised I didn't reply.

That company were able to change it and it has been working brilliantly ever since.

Now I can follow my wonderful Italian TomTom girl, Chiara again as she guides me around the streets. Just another way of my learning of Italian  8)

Did you find the cable was that short on the existing battery? I have a feeling that in the video (not unreasonable as first Giulietta 2010 video done 2015) was already a replacement battery with the cable free and not as per mine wrapped around the inner frame. It means removing the whole circuit board to free up the cable.
