Title: 159
Post by: sam cox on August 18, 2014, 09:58:16 PM
Hello,
I am wanting to buy a used 159, the styling caught my eye, so much more stylish than a cold German car...They do seem more than reasonably priced and I was wondering why ? If any one has any feedback it would be most appreciated, from my research the 159 appears to be a very good car in terms of performance...is it because people in the market for used cars are fearful of reliability issues and servicing costs ?  Thank you, Sam Cox.

'Reasonably priced' is of course subjective, but there are now sub-$10K priced 159s because (a) the earliest ones now have eight years of depreciation behind them; (b) they are basic spec; and (c) they weren't the most expensive cars (c.$40K new?) to begin with.  For the same money now you could buy a comparable BMW / Mercedes / Audi as you point out Sam.

Obviously if a timing belt is due (and the lower $ JTSs have a chain anyway) then price should adjust accordingly.

159s are inherently reliable cars without any prevalent weaknesses or failings.  Go through this forum and others (BB  / alfaowner / ausalfa) and you won't find too many people complaining about their 159.

I know someone who is waiting to buy a Ti 1750TBi for around $mid-teens.  After four years he's still waiting...

And when you find one you like, have it checked over by one of our club supporters, who work on these cars all the time and know their faults and some cases their history, check the club supporters section of this website.
There will be a workshop technical day for 159, Brera and Spider on Saturday 11th October, between 9am - 11am at Alfa Donnini Repairs in East Malvern, Colin.
