Title: Newcastle NSW help/advice
Post by: extraball on June 17, 2013, 07:25:20 PM
Hi, I am looking at buying my first euro car, and have decided that a 2001 to 2005 147 manual twinspark will fit into my budget, and has all the features I want. Now, most of the cars for sale on the net are due, or almost due a major service, around 120ks, or more. I have had 2 quotes in Newcastle for 2500 for this cambelt, timing belt, water pump service. Can someone recommend me a repairer that is cheaper, but good in Newcastle? Thus far, I have tried the well-known cardiff, and wickham repairers for quotes. Also if you know of a 147 manual for sale, send me a PM pls.
Thanks

sorry mods for double post, wasnt sure where to put this.

In Melbourne a cambelt service is about $1,000, only take it to an Alfa Service Provider, as they will have all the tools and have done it before.
Cam belt change is every 3 years or 50,000km or whatever comes first.
Water pump change every 2nd cam belt change.
Oil to use in twin sparks is 10-40 Fully Synthetic Racing oil of your favourite oil brand, or what the Alfa Service provider uses, Colin.

Is your 147 a selespeed and how many doors, a few pictures please and consider joining your state based Alfa Romeo owners club, so you can become part of the community, the Alfa 147 was the 2,000 European car of the year, Colin.

It was the last car styled by Italian Walter Da Silva before he went to SEAT, first Alfa to have drink holders and it has a great Aircondtioner and  a lot of safety equipment, 4 airbags, curtains, stability control and its an Alfa Romeo, good choice, look after it and it will look after you, Colin.

Come on Colin.  Which is it?  A Car, or an Alfa Romeo.  It can't be both .......   :D

Nice work Extraball.  I'll keep an eye out on local roads (once the 90 is operational again)

The last car Waler De Silva styled before he went to SEAT was the 147, i am not sure if he finished it, as he left before it was released, some publications mention another bloke who helped him with it, and it wasn't Stevie Wonder as he was busy at the time doing the AU Falcon, Colin.
