Hi Guys

I am new to GTV6's but have fallen in love with them. One I loked at has a ticking sound coming from the drivers side of the motor. It is definately related to engiune revs, and is a bit off putting when you rev up.

From what I have heard it is not unusual to have a ticking sound in these motors, and you should worry if there is NO ticking. Any comments or advice for a newbie at these beautiful cars.

Thanks

Shane

I don't remember dads GTV6 ticking....  It could possibly be an exhaust leak though?

Yeah my 75 V6 ticks as well.  I had the exhaust cams re-ground and the followers re-faced which made it a lot better, but still ticks a little.  It's a lot more noticeable because I don't have the under-bonnet insulation.  The cam re-grind cost about $130 including the 6 followers.  It could be tappet clearances as well.

I had a ticking on the extractors which shut up after a few minutes when the extractors warmed up.

But probably the real suspect of ticking are the injectors, when they squirt fuel.

Thanks for the advice. While other cars/motors that tick may be the sound of a death soon to come, it sounds like this is an Alfa V6 endearing character  Smiley

I can live with that.

I pick up the GTV6 on saturday  Smiley Can't wait.

5 sleeps to go.
