Oil
« on: October 11, 2007, 01:07:22 AM »

Hey guys,

Just wondering how much oil people go through on 2.0 4 cylinder gtv's. I've been told by my mechanic that brand new straight out the factory they used 1 litre/1000kms. mine used 1.5 litres for 1300kms. To me though, seems a bit excessive and can't help but notice the fair strong smell of oil after driving it...not to mention the clouds of smoke pouring out the exhaust when giving it a bit.

Keep in mind i've just had a "new" engine put in. Fully rebuilt with 30 000kms on it before it went in. My old engine never blew any noticeable smoke..not like this one anyway. Perhaps I just need to give it the good ole 'italian tune-up' and go highway driving at autobahn speeds!? Your thoughts?

cheers

sounds very excessive for a "new" engine, and 1L/1000km sounds like a lot as well ( I wouldn't have gone through more than 250ml during the entire targa).  what colour is the smoke, and what oil are you using? Sounds like you've got a pretty tired engine there.
