Is the engine used in an 1.7 ie model the same as a 1.7 carbed model except for having fuel in jection, and so would fit straight in if I removed the injection and replaced it with my carbs?

Short answer yes but not that simple ... you will need the fuel pumps and injection loom ... this may require the ie fuel tank
