Hi Guys

Some times when my GTV6 is warm, and I turn the starter key I get no response or a slow response from the starter.

Common causes?  Is it voltage, dicky starter or solenoid, or a dodgy switch. Putting together some plans to isolate but just after advice.

CAtch ya

I have heard of this before, sounds like vapour lock.  Sheldon had a drama with this in his 90, there is a thread relating to it and some potential solutions somewhere....try this;

Hey Shane, do you mean a few seconds of hang time before the starter catches. Mine does that too, sometimes I have to hold the key for a good 30secs and sometimes,like yours, no joy at all. I've been told that it's the solenoid but seeing as it is an intermitant fault I can't bring myself to change it yet,I wonder if it's a V6 thing.

yes it is the starter that doesnt kick in. you get power but no solenoid engagement. Might turn it 6 or 8 times and then it kicks and away we go.

First stage is I might run a straight wire to the solenoid connection to isolate the key switch as a cause.

will let you know how it goes.

Hi Shane, have a look at the starter relay too. If the relay contacts are a bit average you might not be getting a full 12v to the starter solenoid. On occasion, when mine has refused all attempts to kick over, a jumpstart does the trick, maybe it's just coincidental. My twin spark Giulli used to do similar things, so i replaced the starter relay. If all else fails I can recomend Abruzzo Auto Electrical in Thomastown 9460 9992,old Joe really knows his alfas and young Marco has a very tasty Guillietta
Good Luck

Update

Just replaced my battery and tightened the 12v connections in the engine bay. Starter cranks over considerably faster so I will see how it goes during the week with hot restarts.

catch ya
