THanks Rob,
I swaped the combination for a second hand job, $100 from Milano and that seems ok, except the highbeam function wont stay on (when stalk and pushed down into place) Im not sure but i assume that the switch must be buggered. Ill open up the one i just pulled out of the car and replace the switch in the new (second hand) one i just put in. I think all the wiring is right as the highbeams come on when i hold the stalk towards the steering wheel

i dont think that this is Over exaggerating by saying that putting a commondore vn v6 enging into an alfa could quite possibly be the worst decision made by any one person in the history of the world ever!!!!!
It is wrong and should be met with severe punishment.
The commodore is a powered shopping trolley or pram, designed to ferry people, but in no way meant to be a drivers car. I follow this statement by saying the 3.6 v6 powerplant (and that is being generous calling it that) is one of the worst engines ever made. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner!!!
An Alfa is just that, please dont be putting different make engines in them, definately not Asian or Australian ones, like Sarah Palin.......its just not right!

im pretty sure only the plastic block is broken, the lights were working perfectly before hand, although i dont know if any collatoral damage has been done now.
will open it up tomorrow and have a crack at fixing it, although i hope it doesnt mean i stuff something up that I cant get the car to spetacollo!
Anyone know how tricky it is to get the assembly off, and whether dismantling it is overly difficult to get to the plastic block?

very nice car indeed, good luck with the sale, hopefully it goes to someone who will keep it as is, and doesnt turn it into a racer, cars in this condition are becoming very rare!

Hey guys, Anyone had any experience with the light stalk on a GTV6? My nephew was in the car and over twisted the light stalk and has broken an internal part which meant the lights wouldnt turn off and the stalk spins freely and actually comes out. I disconnected the power to the mechanism for the short term but just wondering whether you can fix the internal components, or is it all one piece with the indicators. Any info would be much appreciated and look forward to seeing some nice Alfas this weekend! Regards, Adrian

Technical / 116 Series (Alfetta Sedan/GT/GTV & Giulietta Sedan) / Help with Thermo fans not working

Howdy all,
Nothing like a hot weekend to bring to my attention thermo fans which only work when the airconditioning is running. But only one actually comes on in that instance anyway. Has anyone else had this problem before. I guess whoever put in the new air con system decided to do some interesting wiring.
At least the air con works well, considering everyone who told me that they dont work really well it was quite chilly so thats good.
Any help appreciated.
Another question is whether anyone knows any details about the Spetacollo in Nov. As i have never attended before do i need to register if i want to bring my car?
Cheers,
Age

yes and has history, reciepts, tools, brochures and books that go back to day one. I wanted a red one with sunroof, but i am in no way disappointed in what i ended up with. This car is truely amazing, only a few scratches here and there, but it purrs like a kitten, and will be kept in cotton balls in the garage to ensure this beauty sees many more years in its current condition. Even the undercarriage is like new with it being only driven on sunny days, and the previous owner washing it once a year, has ensured no nasty dirt build up. Obviously i am excited, but cant wait until the next run. I dont plan on doing any modifications whatsoever, have someone in dandenong who is a guru with the linkages who will deal with that once and for all. I also plan on treating the underbody to kill of any signs of surface rust. ANy ideas on what best to do?
