The next question is: Is there a VN commodore about with a nord engine in it?

Na, 3years ago i started designing a car(on road/meet ADR's)from scratch and am now building the first one. Full space frame, and a long list of features, but i decided to use the Aurion/Pesara for it's electronics and drive line as i needed a new car engine to meet emissions and noise tests. Also Pesara has blue tooth, sat nav, voice activation, keyless everything, touchscreen intruments, so on and so forth, and a long list of stuff that would be fun just to put in cause it's there...
If your building from scratch...you build a race car...or you build a road car...and i'm building a road car, hopefully a very nice one, but time will tell and we'll see what happens. Smiley

Sounds like an interesting project! Have you got any pictures to share?

Since we are already straying away from Alfa's: BMW's are mostly ugly as sin, but good GT cars they make. The BMW 850 is surprisingly cheap in UK, hard to beat for a GT. I'm not so sure about the GT concept in Australia though, basically any car is fast enough for our speed limits so it just leaves comfort. Europe is different, you can sit at 160+km/h all day long only interrupted by some roadwork here and there, and the obilgatory fuel and wurst stops of course

They also couldn't find any records on my car, a 77 gtv. I will double check my number in case I read it off wrong though.

Thanks Scott, very comprehensive answer!

Not sure yet if i can manage to get a cage logbooked in 2008 yet, to be honest I probably wont.

THE FIA spec really does go into a lot of details. There are some gussets required too if I read it correctly.

BTW, how ironic is it that the FIA website has a picture of a smiling Lewis Hamilton!!!

Thanks Paul, that was kind of what I thought. I need a blue slip so I will get that first. I've got some work on my hands first though...

But: Do I need a weld in cage if it is to be CAMS logbooked? Not sure if I ever need it, but I do keep group Sc in mind just in case I get bitten by the bug
7  Technical / 116 Series (Alfetta Sedan/GT/GTV & Giulietta Sedan) / RTA NSW and cages on: September 09, 2008, 11:12:00 AM
As I've mentioned here before I bought a 77' alfetta gtv recently. I plan to use it both on the road for some weekend fun and use it for super sprints. I'd really like to have a cage in it for track use, but I understand that RTA NSW seems to be of the idea that cages and 4/6 point belts are dangerous!
Has anyone got any pointers to what the deal is? I spoke to Bond and they basically said I'm on my own if I decide to use their cage in a road car. I guess I could go with a half cage, but I would prefer to have the real deal.

I think you have to go with what you feel like, as you say both can be quick. If the car you have is good and sorted I'd be tempted to keep it as you always throw away a bit of money when buying/selling. It already has the right gearbox, with a 24V engine as Brent suggests it will be a better weapon than a stock 3.0L.
9  General Category / Off Topic / Italian Math on: August 22, 2008, 02:56:46 PM
An Italian man wants a job, but the foreman won't hire him until he passes a little math test. "Here's your first question," the foreman said.
"Without using numbers, represent the number 9."

"Without numbers?" the Italian says, "Dat is easy." And he proceeds to draw three trees.

"What's this?" the boss asks.

"Ave you got no brain? Tree and tree and tree make nine," says the Italian.

"Fair enough," says the boss. "Here's your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99."

The Italian stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree.

"Ere you go."

The boss scratches his head and says, "How on earth do you get that to represent 99?"

"Each of da trees is dirty now. So, it's dirty tree, and dirty tree, and dirty tree. Dat is 99."

The boss is getting worried that he's going to actually have to hire this Italian, so he says, "All right, last question.
Same rules again, but represent the number 100."

The Italian stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and says, "Ere you go. One hundred."

The boss looks at the attempt. "You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!"

The Italian leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and says, "A little dog came along and crap by each tree. So now you got dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a turd, dat make one hundred. So, when I start?"

Thanks John & gtv8. Found a few issues that take priority over tacho position so it will have to wait a little.

gtv8, no I'm not local in Melbourne. Lake Macquarie, NSW

Thanks Phil,

I'll leave the soldering alone I think, but I'll keep the euro gauges in the back of my mind if I ever come across any.

12  Technical / 116 Series (Alfetta Sedan/GT/GTV & Giulietta Sedan) / alfetta gtv tacho position on: July 17, 2008, 08:50:47 AM
Hi all,
First of many stupid questions to come:

Did we get ripped off here in Oz off with the tacho placement on the chrome bumper gtv's? Looks to me like  LHD cars got the tacho in front of the steering wheel (where it belongs), and we got the speedo there instead? Can it be swapped back (easily)?

Hi All,

Just an update to this thread. I am now the proud owner of an alfetta GTV 2000! Haven't got the car home yet so I'll come back with an update later.

Anyway, racing plans are still a bit hazy. I plan on doing the driver training course and some sprints later this year, but I think I'll keep the car road based.
