On the 166 there is a small grill to the left hand side of the steering wheel. Behind this grill is a small sensor with a small fan. This is the interior temperature sensor, once you pull the grill off get a damp cotton bud and clean the sensor of all the grime , fluff and dust. This sensor can cause the Air-conditioner faulty message and a quick clean of it may solve your problem.

General Category / General Discussion / Re: Alfa Sales taking a Nosedive

My Answer to it is they have their prices completely wrong in this country along with their perceived product placement in the market. The market is always the best indicator of where you stand and obviously the market has told us that Alfa is not where we think it is. As sales in other RHD countries are actually pretty good. Alfa is not a competitor for BMW or Merc or Audi it is more of a competitor for VW / Peugeot / Renault and even Honda and Mazda. Brera and Spider are overpriced with the amount of performance you get compared to competitors.
Alfa are overpriced to start with when they drop prices the residuals plummet. I think the increased sales in GT is because it is much better value for money than the Brera. Whatever happens something needs to change.

Only thing you can really do at this stage is get it stripped down to see what damage was done. Could be bent valves could be more damage but you will only really know once torn down. I would recommend Hugh Harrison from Alpha repairs to see what he thinks. What kind of revs were you doing when it broke and did it shut down immediately when it broke.

Technical / 932 Series (156, GTV, Spider, 147, and 166) / Heater core / Heater Tap GTV V6 Phase-1

Has anybody replaced the heater core on a Phase-1 GTV V6 , looks like from it's location it is a pain of a job. Anyone got any idea how much to replace in parts and labour. Alternatively does anyone know how you get at the top screw on the cover that goes over where the heater tap is . Bottom screw is easy but have no idea how you get to the top screw.

I agree having been a owner a 164 and now had a 166 for a few years. Loved the 164 and in automatic form actually had a better calibrated auto than the 166 with all it's electronics. One thing i can say is that Alfa got the interior quality right with the 166 (Light years ahead of the 164) and much better than the 156 also.
If you are looking for a manual then no question the 164Q is a great car. If you want something more modern then the 166 is a great car though in their infinite wisdom Ateco only imported the automatic which sort of killed the sales on the car from the start. Then again Ateco do that alot with Alfa's probably why the Alfa sales are looking very sickly this year.

The Jet-tronic injection system is usually common to other European cars of the era , i would check out some wreckers yards to see if you can locate another relay. What does the relay actually activate and how many pins does it have on it as suggested you may be able to replace with a generic.
