Technical / 116 Series (Alfetta Sedan/GT/GTV & Giulietta Sedan) / Running Hot on the Track

My Alfetta GTV (which I drive to the track) starts running too hot(approx 100 c) after 3 to 4 laps on the track. It was suggested to me that I take the thermostat out and block off the bypass hose from the thermostat housing back to the waterpump. Anyone know if I do this will it run too cool on the road? I have also heard that if you pump the water through the radiator without any restiction then it might pass through too quickly to be cooled. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can one tell if a transaxle has a LSD by jacking the car up out of gear and turning one wheel - if the other turns in the same direction then it has a LSD diff? If the opposite wheel does not turn in the same direction does it definitely mean that it is an open diff?

I have 6 off 15x6 wheels with Toyo RA1 205/50 tyres on them - probably an average of 1/2 used. However they are 5 stud - I have had to revert to 4 stud for group S. I have the 5 stud hubs off my car that I can throw in with the wheels if you are interested. The car had 4 pot Volvo calipers with GTV6 vented rotors which fitted under the rims. Located in Sydney

I am almost finished converting my suspension back to the original 4 stud hiubs and front brake setup and have Yoko A048 tyres on 14x6 rims for the car. Any recommendations for me as to what specs to use for the front wheel alignment?
Thanks Rob

General Category / General Discussion / Alfetta GTV spark Plug Leads

My Autometer tachometer behaves erratically as the revs rise and even more so when the engine is under load. The autometer website suggests that I need a set of suppression core spark plug leads. Anyone come across this problem before and if the leads are in fact the cause do you have any recommendations as to what leads I should use?
Thanks

Hi
I am looking for a reputable mechanic/workshop in Sydney to do some work on my Alfetta GTV, starting with a head gasket replacement. Anyone have any suggestions for me. Dont really mind where they are as long as they are reputable and reliable.

Thanks for the great advice as always. There seems to be an even newer (2008) CAMS tyre update which includes Toyo's again, but they only stock 185's. Will check price and availability on the 3 that you recommend and decide from there.

I need to buy some tyres for my 14x6 rims that I will be fitting to my Alfetta to meet group S specs. What is the tyre of choice? From what I can see there is not a 205/60/14 available that is CAMS approved. I would like to use Toyo R888's but they are only available in 185/60/14. I also assume that we are not allowed to downsize to 13" rims for which there are 205/60 tyres available.
Thanks

Thanks for your help in faxing the spec sheets through to me. I now need to search the wreckers for a set of four lug hubs and original front calipers - maybe even get lucky and find a twin spark box! Once that is done, I can go about getting the logbook changed to Sc from whatever rally logbook the car has at the moment.
