Thanks for the help.
I have a few spare plugs floating around somewhere and I have sourced a new dizzy cap from Autobarn of all places . Might replace the lead while I am there too.
The old cap has seen better days, one of the retaining clips had actually punched a hole the size of a 5c piece in it. and I didn't bother to put the plastic cover that seals the entire unit back over it last time..
If it's still not running right, is there any risk in damaging the engine if I drive it down to Como Park on 3 cylinders? ( about 8 ks).

Thought I had better take the cover of the car and make sure everything was fine prior to the short drive down to Como Park for next weekends Spettacolo. She finally kicked into life again all sounding sweet until I pulled out onto the street and she sounded more like a tractor than an Alfa. Thought it might have been a hole in the exhaust to start with so pulled over to check but no tell tale signs to be seen. Then as I pulled away again the power was well down. This has happened previously but cleared itself after a minute or two. Not this time The engine sounds fine idling but under load its sounds very agricultural and very sluggish. SO I have pulled out the plugs all seem ok except for the front one which was very "damp" / black. I presume I am not getting in spark to this plug. The dizzy cap has seen better days and I think there may be some moisture getting in as the point for this lead/ plug is slightly oxidized. Is this enough to cause the problem ?? If so where can I get a new cap soon? Are they a fairly standard Bosch unit ?? Thanks Ash

IF you head down Williams road / Alexandra Ave down the hill after crossing Toorak road the road takes a left at the bottom of the hill. Como Park is the on on the right, not the Como Park with the Cricket pitch & Club House on the left . Confused, I was last year. Tried to mark it on the map with an arrow, not sure how clear it is though !
Just keep an eye out for all the Alfas, cant go wrong..

Hey Matt, Missed the Alfa in your picture, is that the Red 105 2ltr that you can just see the corner of in the pic? Looked great out on the circuit, unfortunately I never got close enough to check it out properly. Watched the Silver (orange stripe) GTV line up side by side with the 911 in similar colours on Sat, it seemed to be running ok then, mind you it did get swamped of the start by a handful of 911s. It's a great event in that you can get up close to most cars, and chat to the owners. Most were very welcoming and helpful. It's given me the bug again to get out and work on my old bus again... One day she'll be out on the track Here’s a couple more pics.. Sorry no Alfas this time.

Here are a few photos from Sandown today.. Too many great cars to mention, nice to see a few Alfa's amongst them..
Only spotted 4 racing on the Sat, could have been some I missed ? - Orange 1300 Alfa GT Junior / Red 2000 105 / Blue 1750 Spider and a couple of GTV alfettas . silver one pictured and another gold one.
Not sure what model the below Alfa is at the Historic & Vintage Restoration tent was but it was STUNNING !

Hey Pep, I am in the same mind set, parking up an old banger beside a beautifully restored alfa isn't my idea of a picnic. But I will be there with the car all the same ! looking forward to some handy pointers ie why has my car got a three bar grille and most others I have seen only a single bar ! I had some rust coloured staining leaching through a repair from the previous owner. I removed about 4mm deep of bog to inspect the damage in a few areas around the rear window and the rear tail lights. It looks like is had a shunt in a previous life. As the car is parked in the open air I have just had to treat the area as best i could, but it now looks rough as guts! the poor car as had a terrible respray at some stage, and now being out exposed to the weather, I think the only panel that doesn't have paint crazing is the roof ! The good news it the old man has managed to rescue an old shed from a mates cow paddock, so with a few alterations the 105 will fit nicley out of the weather and I can get to work.. Anyhow heading off to Sandown historic racing this arvo to get some inspiration ! Ash

Hey Pep,
Will contact them directly and see what info is availble on weight & track use.
As you said the wheels are more affordable it's usually the shipping that pushes the price up on the sets I have looked at. 18 Racing in the states sell & ship worldwide, shipping varied considerably on either airport pickup or door to door.

I like the idea of WIP comp!
This years Spettacolo could be the starting point, all entries have 12 months to work on the car, and then at next year most improved vehicle takes the prize..
Cars could be entered in on the day and "judged" / inspected as a starting point. Then as repairs continue over the year progress can be followed via the forum.
I am sure it would give many a project car a real kick along...
Any chance of something like this happening??

Thanks for the encouragment, will make every effort to bring the car this year and onto the park. What are the requirements of Wash'n Shine? Washing is not a problem, getting a shine out the paint work & brightwork is another story ? Ash

Hi,
Has anyone had any experience with or knowledge on Rota Wheels (Philippine Aluminum Wheels, Inc. (PAWI)?
They manufacture a rim that resembles Minilite / Superlite / Panasport style. I have only seen them for sale on Ebay, generally out of the states. They certainly look the business but does anyone know how they perform on the road / track?
They do a 15 x 7 / 4 x 108 +30 offset which should suit / fit a 105?
Thanks Ash

Looking forward to this years Spettacolo as it was such a great event last year. It was a perfect opportunity to see so many similar 105s and other Alfas in one spot and to get some inspiration & ideas for my car.
I am toying with the idea of bringing my car along this year, but currently the car isn’t in great shape. Thought it would be a great opportunity to get some on hands on advice on the restoration / repair before I start work on her…
Do you need to notify / register cars for the event?
The car is drivable just a little rough around the edges at the moment, any issues bringing along a car in a somewhat slight state of disrepair??
Thanks Ash

I had one break on me when I was looking at a car, the guy selling it was not impressed. Luckily it snapped close to the handle. We had to carefully remove some of the outer casing on the cable to find the end of the wire and pull with some needle nose pliers. Not much help to you now I know but I now have a piece of 20 lb fishing line running the length of the cable tied through to the release just in case. Good luck....
