Just looking at the last photo "Spin". I looks like the instructor's helmut is canked towards you . Is he asking the question "What the F#### are you doing" or "what do you plan on doing  next".
Hope you make in to P I in December.

Deano,

You ought to try and get a hold of Alan Goodall. He won the 1984 World A class catamaran championships (sailing). He also knows a thing or two about getting the best out of a 75.

He will probably be at Philip Island in December.
3  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Looking to get started on: November 11, 2008, 06:56:06 PM
I agree with Phil Baskett about the Alfa 75 ,but as mentioned  you might want to consider an Alfetta GTV.

The pick of the bunch are the original steel bumper GTV's and Alfetta 1.8 GT  (1976  - 1981). Although getting harder to find IMHO these are the cars that offer some potential to be collectable and with any chance get your money back at some later date.

Track wise if you enjoy it and want to get more serious you have a great base for a Group S car . Alternatively if you want to use it as a weekend cruiser, it is something that you can put the misses & kids in, it has  a radio & heater and hopefully not to many complaints.

I purchased a 1979 Alfetta GTV did earlier this year (see avatar). I have been to 3 sprints so far this year and it is "as much fun as you can have with your pants on"

The following add was in the classifieds on this page a couple of months ago. This is about what you should pay for a car but be prepared to spend that much again on decent tyres suspension & brakes to get it to a safe condition to get on the track.

David informs me that he still has three other Alfas including an immaculate silver 1985 2.0 GTV and is still building Alfetta Group Sc race car, and is not lost from the "faithful" just because he isn't with AR anymore!

Scott,

The Dulux & Ingis cars are both V6's highly modified with pretty good steerers on the tiller. 1.26 in Group S trim with all the baggage that carries must indicate something well north of 200hp from an Nord 2 litre engine.

A phenomenal result.

Phil, thanks for the definitive answers. Is 1.26 the fastest a 4 cylinder alfa ( non turbo charged )has ever been around Sandown Huh

That was Tony Karanfilovski's car (NSW)  with Spencer Rice as pit crew. Spoke to him on Friday it was his first time at the track. According to Natsoft Saturday's time of 1.26.8 made him the 4th fastest car in Group  S with only the De Tomasa Pantera, Shelby Cobra, and a Porsche 911 in front of him, with all the other 911's and plenty of other respectable cars behind him. What happened???

PS :Tony's car has a very interesting history, it used to be Sir John Kerr's ( eX G G )  wife's car. Genuine 57,000k's although i believe the last couple of thousand k's might have been a bit tougher that the early one's>

I like the idea of WIP comp!

This years Spettacolo could be the starting point, all entries have 12 months to work on the car, and then at next year most improved vehicle takes the prize..

Cars could be entered in on the day and "judged" / inspected as a starting point. Then as repairs continue over the year progress can be followed via the forum.

I am sure it would give many a project car a real kick along...

Any chance of something like this happening??.

Ash,

Your right some of these 105 restorations are more like archaeological digs and proceed with that kind of speed and care.  Maybe an annual check up is better than time lapse photography.

TOP GEAR RETURNS WITH SERIES 11
Mondays from 24 November 2008, at 7:30pm

SBS’s most popular program Top Gear returns this month with an all new six-episode series commencing Monday 24 November at 7:30pm.

Doing what they do best hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig return for Series 11.

Top Gear fans will get a summer full of motoring entertainment on SBS with the network catching up to the UK and presenting back-to-back new Top Gear, with the eight-part Series 12 following Series 11, from Monday 5 January 2009.

“We know Top Gear fans have a real thirst for the latest antics from the British Top Gear team and so SBS has an action packed summer planned for our audience,” Director of Content, Matt Campbell said.

“This will bring Australian viewers up-to-date with Top Gear UK after a successful introduction to the local lads from Top Gear Australia.”

In Series 11 you can expect to see double the celebrities, Jeremy test drive the latest cars and a race across Japan with the ultra efficient Japanese public transport system taking on the high tech Nissan GTR. The hosts are asked to purchase old Alpha Romeos for under £1000 and are then challenged by the producers to put them through a track day, calendar shoot and car show. Richard competes against two skiers in the Alps, Jeremy and James show off their large ageing luxury cars through the streets of London and a bunch of men wearing tight pants chase Jeremy through a forest.

Episode 1 – Monday 24 November, 7:30pm

Top Gear looks at fuel economy and, in an important and useful test, find out how far five supercars can go on one gallon of petrol. The hosts are then presented a challenge – to buy old bombs and turn them into modern police cars before putting them through a number of challenges including a spectacular car chase test with The Stig driving the getaway car.  Jeremy compares the Toyota Prius and BMW M3, of course, and test drives the Ferrari Suderia. Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins from The Friday Night Project are the Stars in the Reasonably Priced Car.

All new Top Gear on SBS, from Monday 24 November at 7:30pm

For more information on Top Gear, publicity images or preview copies, please contact Heidi Packer, Communications Specialist, SBS on 02 9430 3319 or heidi.packer@sbs.com.au.

Ed, Your right.

I've checked Natsoft. Trying to get results for the six hour is like a trying to  results from a half senate election. Maybe the results will be available to the casual observer sometime within the next working lifetime.

Don't know if anyone else catchs this show on channel 31, but last night the whole show was on Veloce Racing in NSW. It was from a recent meeting at Wakefield Park. They had a camera in David Stone's (ex Alfa Romeo Aust GM)156 GTA  for a couple of laps, then a camera in Bill Mc Goffin's 105 GTV. Then a bit on Bills race car transporter.

Also some of the other NSW racers John Pucak,Tony Karanfilovski to mention a few.  Phil Baskett, did i also see your car Huh
13  General Category / Photos & Videos / Re: Driving with your wife on: October 05, 2008, 08:51:35 PM
Gary,

My wife is Italian , so i got the full translation. She was laughing as loud as Mrs Patrase. I can tell you she wasn't asking him to go faster, in fact she tells Ricardo he is "f---king mad" , then is quite suprised to know the camera is on at the end.

Nothing like a bit of free advice if you look like you are having fun.
14  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Faded leather seat on: September 18, 2008, 08:22:15 PM
Not sure about re colouring your seat. However the best treatment you can give any leather seat is with a sponge and pure soap (ie velvet soap). Soap up the sponge with warm water and rub - scrub over the leather. Wipe off the residue. You will be amazed at how much dirt and stains you will remove . The lanoline in the soap also helps to keep the leather supple.
