Ed is on the money here. Check it out just in case there is a disaster. Check our sponsors page as suggested. Some even give discounts to club members so you may want to take advantage of our benefits.
A new member of the club is Gabriel Massa, of 'Il Bolide Rosso'. Tel: 9484-6534.
As a 156 specialist mechanic with the Analyser, he said he would welcome any calls and give advice as needed.
I do hope you had a pre-purchase inspection (not a road worthy) of the car to determine such typical 156 issues were ok, rectified etc, ... otherwise for $100- you may get some peace of mind with a post inspection.
Make some enquiries, you want a mechanic who is an enthusiast, an alfa specialist who will give you the options here.
Cheers.

Welcome. You have a big move on your hands. A few shipping experts on the forum will give you the info re costs and compliance certification.
Bring out you cars by all means but with the 166's, the Australiam market had the V6 3lt autos and they are pretty cheep now. A few early 1999 models are for sale now for $9 plus. Consider your shipping and compliance costs.
I do not think it would be worth the expense in bringing the 166 out - and I say that as you could buy a aussu spec car of your choice here and trade up with the money saved. Say a 156 V6 for instance (manual or auto). Up to you.
Best of Luck.

Its good to campare prices and options.
Check out the Alfa Romeo Australia dealer home page and look at their used cars for sale.
Alternatively go to a site like Drive, car sales, carguide and use the filetes for options.
Example on Carpoint, Used cars, 159, JTD, manual. A selection of 17 cars and prices so you will find a few black ones there.
Good luck.

The car should have been serviced regularly, so that's a warning. However if you are buying it at a discount, then you have to way up the benefits. I have learnt that a cheap car can cost a lot more in the long run. There are plenty of cars out there so the choice is yours.
The selespede was updated on the later models and what Simon says is on the money. Also, you have to get this checked out byan Alfa Specialist (refer our sponsors page - link on top right) for a prepurchase inspection as they know what to look for and the costs. Cost of repair is a negotiating tool on price. Plus they can give you a professional opinion about the car and advice. eg. did you know that the selespeed can be reset (when serviced) on the Alfa Analyser. So you should look at one of our sponsors for this.
Some people suggest that as it is a robotic clutch, you take your foot slightly off the accelerator when changing up.
Even if you get a few cars checked out it is peace of mind.
Good hunting !

Wealth of information Gary for alfisti on tour.
I have heard that the aircon in 156's struggles a bit in on the hotter summer days.
So, besides purchasing a car without a black leather interior, can you upgrade the fan motor in some way or at some expense upgrade the aircon pump or whatever ? If you can make performance improvements to your car, are there ones that include an upgrade for the aircon ?
Cheers.

Thanks to all who helped on the day.
At the midday count we had 103 cars on the ground with more still arriving til about 2.00pm - and that was with grey rain threatening skies most of the day ! And in all about 50 entries in the Wash'n Shine.
Great reports all day. Don't know how many extera cars we would have had as the ground was pretty full.
Thanks again.

There are quite a few 156's around for sale and a brief search on the internet, carsales, carpoint, trading post etc will have a few sedans under $7k.
However the sportswagons are a bit more than that and the cheapest was about $12k in NSW from memory. Unless you can get one thru an auction house at wholwesale price you may miss out.
But with these value 156's- please be cautions as they may not have the valuable service book, not serviced by an Alfa specialitst (refer the SA club for details) and are very high milage/km's.
These are a few expensive issues with badly maintained twin spark engines and the selespeed (robotic clutch) requires evental replacement.
In fact the sedan has more room than the sportswagon & a manual may be a better than selespeed.
Do you research and good motoring - remember to PAY for an alfa specialist to check out the car and this can be part of your negotiation on purchase.
Saving up for a higher value car with service record- timing belt & clutch replacement is a good idea.
Cheers.

Spettacolo 2008 – Sunday 23rd November. Como Park Reserve, South Yarra.
Most important: Cars arrive 9.00am for 10.00am start.
Look for the Flags and the signs off Alexandra Avenue, South Yarra.
This year, we will be looking for assistance on the day especially for the judging for the respective classes. Several people have volunteered already and a few extra hands to help with vehicle mgt would be appreciated.
This year, we have expanded our vehicle classes to include the range of current models including 159, Brera, Spider, 147 and GT. Please complete the entry form and register on the day. Please come along and support the event and have a great day. We will be having a BBQ, coffee van and gelati van onsite for the day. The Club Shop will be selling our latest merchandise and some our club sponsors will have trade displays.
In particular we encourage: • All members supporting the club by entering in the Wash & Shine. • Entry in Class K for non club members with any Alfa model. • Voting in Peoples Choice Award.
This year every member that enters a car into Wash’n Shine or Concours Event goes into the draw for a $100 worth of Club merchandise. Someone has to win!
Over the last few days, I have had a lot of interest and a few common queries.
In summary: • A non member can bring in their car into the park as they can enter into their own Wash’n Shine. • Members can bring their cars(s) and park in the reserve. • You do not have to enter into the competition. • We would like to see as many Pininfarina cars there as possible i.e. 164, Brera, Spider etc. • We encourage visitors (alfisti) to come along, show of their cars (Alfas). • join our club and start getting benefits.
If you have any queries or would like to assist on the day, please contact John on 0409-961-719 or a committee member.
Thank you.
