Hi Guys, had a crack at fixing up the trim on the centre console on my road car, total cost of fix up $20 vinyl $8 contact adhesive $10 varnish Pretty happy with the results, the vinyl stretched around the shape remarkable easily, got my mum to whip out the sewing machine for the gear shifter boot. Was initially just going to cover the rear parcel shelf but thought I would give the console a go, pretty glad I did!

Unlikely to be the cap, caps will usually only give you problems if they are cracked, but worth changing as gary says, easy to get and cheap too, a little oxide will reduce spark size, but unlikely to make the cylinder miss alltogeather. I would put a slab on it being the plugs, once wet sometimes they never recover, put a fresh set in and I reckon you will be in business let us know how you go

Ah fun fun fun I did notice that when she finally fired up the tacho was dancing up and down, is this common for these tachos? No the tacho and speedo should run smoothly, it could be the inner cable sticking in the outer, so you can take the cable out of the car, pull the inner out and give it a good clean with degreaser and coat it in some light oil before you put it back in. It could also be a damaged drive pin on either end of the cable, only thing to do there is get a new one Also noticed that my oil pressure gauge did not work, light does go out, so I presume the sender is at fault, is there a good way to check these? If you ground the sender wire to earth the gauge should go high The photos show a hazard light on my car, I wonder if this was standard for the 2000 model. Not as far as I know Hope that helps

Hey pep If you turn the key but can’t hear a clunk, sounds like the starter solenoid has begun to fail. These are a resonable standard item and easy to replace once the starter is out of the car. The only reason I can think of that the throttle would have anything to do with it is if you have a lose wire from the ignition to the starter solenoid and the throttle linkage is moving that wire, as the linkage is fairly close to the starter moter so its possible Thinking it may be a relay No relay’s in that circuit from standard but can be a good idea to add one good luck

That’s good advice from Chris, to make it easier to find the marks on the crank pully you can also pull out no. 1 plug and carefully using a screw driver find TDC by slowly rotating the engine, and like Chris said, if you do this with the cam cover off by checking that both cam lobes of no 1 are facing out you can be sure you are on the compression stroke. Once clean and dry, find the timing marks and use some white chalk White out pen works well also Tim when you took the top off the carbies was there any fuel in the float bowls ?

Hi tim, the reg on top of the glass filter unit is not a necessity but it is good to have it there, so just replace the filter (if you can’t get the correct replacement filter, in the past I’ve cut open a standard plastic housed filter and the paper element inside fits great!) and I’ve never had a problem with the regulating part either. With a mechanical pump you should see a good steady flow of fuel, it won’t be very powerfully as those pumps only produce around 3-5psi. when the fuel float in the carbys are shut where does the fuel by pass the carbys? When the float closes the needle valves it simple dead ends the pump, no return system at all.
