Technical / 116 Series (Alfetta Sedan/GT/GTV & Giulietta Sedan) / GTV6 Fuel Injection

Hi Guys
I know the after market FI units for the GTV6 are popular for modified and race type cars, but what about the bog standard GTV6.
If I have a dead computer and need to get another one, is one of the tried and tested replacement FI units a good option. Can I just set some basic settings and get similar performance from the standard unit, potentially at a lower replacement cost.
Just doing some planning for the future. I am assuming a different unit MAY give you some small increase in performance, and be fully tuneable. But I am assuming that the factory unit is well tuned and suited to the standard engine.

Great info from all - love the photos.
Simple and reliable - i like the sound of that - I will just have to do some learning so I am at least basically familiar with how it all works.
I'll just have to buy another alfa with Webers :-) (an excuse to buy another car Yeah)
I am assuming the GTV6 and 75 Twin Spark have different FI systems, is the 75TS simple and relaible as well.

Technical / 160 Series (90, 75, 164 Sedans) / 75 TSpark Gear box mounts

Hi Guys
Short story, how do I get the front of my gearbox in my 75 ts to drop down so I can replace the gearbox mounts. Are there a couple of bolts I can take out in the suspension, or do I just jack it up higher and lever it down with heaps of pressure. Any suggestions appreciaited :-)
Long Story.
Well seeing as the Wife is the new Social Secretary she started bugging me about finishing the 75 in the backyard. Something about wanting to attend Alfa meetings in an Alfa if I happen to be away (she is not allowed to drive the GTV6).
So gearbox mounts are the next job. I previously had a look, decided it was PITA job and thought some deep reflection was required. So today, I'm in, lets see if it can be done.
I have already removed all botls for the back end of the tail shaft, and thought it was stopping the gearbox from dropping down - wrong. It's just the rest of the suspension holding the gear box up.
I removed the plate covering part of the tail shaft and - bloody hell, there was half of Western Victoria living ontop of it. The car was originally from Warnambool, a one owner, and 99% country miles. I suspect that the owners misread the brochure and though it was designed for off road use.
Anyway, after I put my shoulder back in ( I wasn't expecting the plate to weigh 10 kilos) , i cleaned the plate so that is ready to go back in and the car should have an extra 5 kph on top speed. I have pickies which I will post.
Levered the cross member down some and started on the mount bolts, only to discover that the two holding the mount to the cross member are 6 mm hex bolts, probably the same ones used on 33 CV joints. Clearly alfa bought heaps of them cheap and decided to put them where ever they would be hard to remove.
The good thing about hex bolts, difficult to strip and precision. Bad thing, the hex key must be 100% straight or it wont go in the hole :-(
Eventually managed to get one out. Removed (eventually) the three bolts which I suspect also have something to do with the gear shifter - that will be fun to reconnect. Access on the drivers side looks even worse and the clutch slave looks like it is in the way as well :-(
So here is my question. How do I get the front of the gearbox to drop down and give me access so I can change the mounts?
Any help appreciated.

Yes the sound of a GTV6 with webers - could there possibly be anything better.
First thing to do after the conversion would be to remove the stereo, you'd never use it again, and forget about a hands free kit, I have enough trouble already hearing the conversation :-) --but I love it:-)

Hi Guys
Might sound like a dumb one (happy to ask dumb things). Has anyone, could anyone convert a GTV6 from injection to a carby setup. Is there a kit ??
Of course this would all have to be done with the relevent emmission regulations being met, but just curious if it would be possible.
I must confess I know bugger all about, and am quite scared of fuel injection and car computers (funny seeing I work in the IT industry), so that is the angle for my question.
Thanks in advance for replies.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the info, that was the name I was after. On the soft spoiler that could be common as my GTV6 has a genuine Zender kit and that also has a soft spoiler.
Lucky for you Alan your status says "Newbie" or you may have been ordered to stand in the corner with the dunces cap on :-)
Hopefully there will be heaps of lovely GP's to look at on Spettacollo Day.

Hi Guys
I was talking to a mate about the GTV6 gp the other day, but couldn't remember the name on the original GP body kit. Any one know this one. I was telling him this was one of the ways to check if it was a "real" GP.
I am pretty sure it is a two word brand and starts with an "R".
One day I hope to be able to check this by visiting my garage but not yet :-(

Had to do ine when I replaced the water pump.
Yeah - how hard can it be. Probably spent at least 6 hours just stuffing around with the belt until I gleamed a couple of tips. Next time i think it will be a garage job.
Even though I appear to have done a good enough job as the car runs like a dream.
On days like today, sunroof open, favourite girl in the passenger seat, sussing out some info for social club events, and gunning the GTV6 down the highway, it doesnt get much better than that :-)

Hi Guys
Have a Mate who was in love with a Silver GTV 2.0 84 model I think it was. He has owned a 2000 Spider since and has gone to the dark side and driven a VW Taureg.
Now looking to find another Silver GTV.
Anyone know of any good ones around.
Let me know and I can pass on details

Excellent info guys. I will hunt it down and see what I can find out.
I have experienced petrol fumes in the car but that has been from either spilled fuel and coming in the triangle window near the fuel filler or maybe from loose cap and venting through to the same window.
once again thanks for the info Guys.
I will let you know how I go.

Technical / 116 Series (Alfetta Sedan/GT/GTV & Giulietta Sedan) / Pressure in GTV6 Fuel Tank
|
on: October 12, 2008, 02:04:53 PM

Hi Guys
Question on fuel tank pressure. sometimes I open the cap and there is significant pressure in there, as in the cap nearly flies out of your hand. Other times there is no pressure at all.
It doesnt seem to be linked to hot days, low fuel high fuel etc.
I am assuming that on the times when there is no pressure maybe the cap is not on as tight as it could be.
Question: is pressure in the tank part of the fuel injection system, do you need the pressure there to help the car get the fuel through, is it part of how things work.
Just after some info.
Thanks in advance Guys.

Hi GUys
Just interested in the body/chassis configuration of the GTV6. Are these like the 105 (monocoque) or are they a traditional body panels on chassis rails. Just curious from a disassembly for body work point of view.
Any advice would be great.
