Title: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Trent Harrison on November 25, 2006, 10:05:12 PM
Hey Guys,

Here is the details about the championship which I came up with tonight.  It seems as though we have a fair bit of interest so maybe once everyone has their game installed and gets some practice we can begin sometime in December.

By the way:

Usually in online racing everyone has to use the cars that come with the game - but there is a way to add skins to those existing cars, that way when we get around to racing we can have new skins, and race numbers etc.

If you guys (Scott/Trent) wanted Dulux/Ignis/Malvern/Lizard liveried 550s I can oblige, they dont take too long and they would make a nice addition to an online AROCA series.

Maybe Evan could have a Trofeo Alfasud car :)

Let me know so I can get onto them soon if need be.

Pete

Hey Pete,

Thats sounds like a great idea.

Do you think you could jig up an Ignis 550 Maranello and a Dulux 550.

I think that if everybody had there own skins it would be easier to identify who you are racing against.

#75 for Ignis and #67 for Dulux.

I have been using the Scuderia F1 Livery from no-grip and its pretty cool but an Ignis car would be awesome!

Trent

Crap I've been playing GT Legends and struggling with that...!  I'll have to place an order for GTR2.

Trent:

No worries mate - if you could post some pics of the cars or direct me to a link where there are some pics I'll get started.

Are you sure you want 550s though?? 575 is the latest and greatest :)

Alright.. heres an early sneak peek at the Ignis #75 550... still lots to do obviously and the model looks a bit rough in places - thats just due to the screen shot being from the model display program i use instead of going ingame to check everytime i add something.

Enjoy.. need some pics especially of the sill tho, i cant make out the logos. Cheers

pardon my ignorance, but is GTR2  a pc based game or console (ps2, xbox) format?

if online, what is the link please?

And Pete, can anyone design their own skin?

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on November 28, 2006, 09:22:16 PM
Scott: need photos... do you still have the page on your website from when the car was FS?

Ed: GTR2 is PC only, I'd recommend specs of approx.... 2MHz processor, 256MB Video card, 512mb-1gb ram for GTR2 especially if you want to play online, not so much for offline single user.
You can go to www.gtr-game.com if you really want, otherwise just go to www.ebay.com.au and get a copy so you can start getting ready to open a tin of whoopass.

Re skinning: can anyone make their own skins.

The long and the short of it is of course yes, in the same way that anyone could drive an F1 car - if you understand my poor and quickly constructed analogy.

Basically you need good knowledge of either Jasc/Corel Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop and a lot of time on your hands.  A simple design like the Ignis car will take me probably 1.5-2 hrs depending on the base model used (for instance, the Ferrari 360 modena model is horrid to skin), whereas I'm expecting the Dulux car to take a bit more.. probably 3 hours if everything goes to plan. I don't really mind that time becuase i enjoy doing it and seeing designs come to life but for some people especially the initial learning time it might be a bit strenous.

I guess like most things, a decent understanding and a decent job doesnt take too long, but a thorough understanding and a thorough job take a bit longer.

I certainly wouldn't classify it as overly difficult, but experience in either of the aforementioned programs is fundamentally necessary.

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on November 28, 2006, 10:36:28 PM
Thanks Scott - i reckon that'll probably be enough for now though I may need a clearer shot of the actual Dulux typeface and logo, becuase of its age I cant find it in any current logo libraries. I'll be able to get started pretty soon actually, Trent's Banana is nearly finished  :D ;)

Just a few points of clarification:

A) On the Ignis car - I can make out AEI and Australian Airlines on the sill but what is the forward logo/sponsor? Also, are these sill logos the same yellow as the rest of the car or darker.. Hard to tell from small photos.
b) Anyone got pics of the back of the Ignis car???
c) What is the logo between and behind "Dulux" and "Autocolour" on the door of the dulux car?
d) are the angles of the red and yellow sections on the dulux car parallel?

Ignis nearly finished..

Hey Pete,

Sorry I havent been able to reply today I have been working on Group S.

The car looks awesome!!  ;D

When I go to the factory tomorrow I will get some more pictures of it.

I must say that is a truely amazing job you have done, I know how to use photoshop but im not sure whether I could replicate something like that, amazing.

As for what car either one will do, they both have similar performance in game.  Whichever is easier for you.

I'll post some more pics tomorrow.

No worries mate, glad you like it so far. Im not quite happy with the yellow on it yet, although every pic of the Ignis car i see looks different. Easy change anyway.

Can someone confirm also whether the dulux car main colour is very dark blue or black??

The dulux car is black.

Here is the photos I promised.  The color of the sill logos are the same yellow as the car.

Perfect, thanks Trent. At this rate your car should be ready for download tomorrow night!

Ciao.

Ok Ignis is finished - unless someone points out something Ive missed of course. I take it there is nothing on the roof??

I'll package it and convert it to game files tomorrow. Meanwhile, Dulux awaits.

updates - added sill sponsors, changed yellow, added rear ignis logo.

Ok.. started some colour testing and base design on Dulux. Need a close up of that oval logo though to get much further.

What's the going rate for the software?  there is one on Ebay now for $50 so far.

Hey Pete,

The car looks great!!

I was just wondering whether you could do the Ignis rims?

If its to much trouble dont worry about it.  The car looks awesome anyway.

Looking good Pete - I'll post some more pics tonight!!

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on November 30, 2006, 05:44:37 PM
Hi Trent - sorry, I cant do the dinner plates on the Ignis because it actually requires the whole wheel to be 3D modelled - which is both skills and time i dont have :D Also, even if i could it would create a mismatch when we start playing online anyway.

Thanks Scott, I won't be able to do any thing on it til tue cos im going away this weekend but post away and ill be sure to grab it soon.

Ed: GTR2 shouldnt cost more than $50, but beware of the dodgy Thai sellers on ebay who show some questionable business practices in selling software. I saw one the other day for 39.99 w/o postage from an AU seller, so you should be able to find one for about that. If by the crazy chance you actually find it at a retailer (Harvey Norman is the best bet) it should be 49.95 RRP i believe.

Will this help?

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on November 30, 2006, 10:02:59 PM
Yeah that should be enough, I might scratch make the dulux logos for clarity but thats a good reference.

Still need to know what the logo between the rear wheel and "Autocolour" is.. looks like a shield or something??

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Scott Farquharson on December 01, 2006, 12:31:59 AM
This might be clearer - don't put on the "Nissan" thingo above the number or the "Alfa Romeo" on the rear guard

Thanks!

Scott

Hey Pete,

Have you got the Ignis car ready?

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on December 11, 2006, 10:55:25 PM
Hi trent, sorry about the delay.

If you can do me a quick favour i can pack it for u. I dont have the game installed atm, so if you can go into...

GTR2\Gamedata\Teams\GT\Ferrari 550

or

GTR2\Gamedata\Teams\2003\GT\Ferrari 550

I say 'or' because I cant remember GTR2's way of seperating the two years that it covers. I THINK.. itll be the top one, and inside that folder will be a "JMB 2003" folder or something like that.

There should be something like that - I need the 2003 team JMB 550 folder. In that folder should be a *.car file. If you can let me know what the actual filename of that *.car file is, thatd be great. I think there will be two JMB 2003 cars, either will do for our purposes. Hope all that makes sense  :-\

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Trent Harrison on December 12, 2006, 05:20:49 PM
Hey Pete,

No worries.  The file name is 03009_GT_Ferrari_F550.car and 03010_GT_Ferrari_F550.car

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on December 12, 2006, 10:19:33 PM
Thanks trent. In the zip there are two DDS files. Leave these in the JMB directory where those*.car files are.

NOTE: You'll still need to select the No.9 JMB car in the menus etc. This is not a 'standalone' car with your name and a seperate number etc, just a skin - it will still be called JMB Racing No 9 in race results and all that sort of thing, but the Ignis livery will show on the car.

Let me know if it does or doesnt work, and give us an in-game screenshot too if u can.

Cheers.
Pete

edit: Forum doesnt allow files above 256kb to be uploaded. Ill email.

hey thanks for that trent ;D, but thats GT4, GTR is WAY harder.
the best time i could pull so far at Valancia (not sure how to spell that) was a 1:35.6 in the lambo with only ABS.
so if others could post some times here i would like to see how we all compare.

Okay I guess 1.41 in the Ferrari 550 at Valencia is NOT going to cut it.  That's the one lap I managed to keep the thing on the black stuff all the way around.  *sigh*  >:(

Guys if you want to hook up online and play some games, why not use xfire?  It's an instant messaging program like MSN or Yahoo messenger, but it works while you are in the game (without getting in the way) so you can let someone know that you are also on line and would like to start a race...

http://www.xfire.com/

Install it then add me to your list of buddies - I'm "bottch105".  If I'm online at the same time perhaps you can show me the way around Valencia GP?

Any troubles let me know...

Nope not the wrong way.  In the main menu in GTR2 there is an option for multiplayer on the internet.  It will prompt you to either log in (using an existing username/password) or create a new account.  To create a new account you need the serial number that is printed on a sticker on the back of the game manual.  You should then get a list of servers that are out there hosting races.

Admittedly I haven't had a go at this yet, as I wouldn't want to embarrass everyone with my mad skillz.  ;D

Hi guys... sorry there hasnt been any skins for a while, my comp will be back this week and then Ignis and Dulux will be released, followed by the Murcie skins for us Lambo boys...

Steve.. I have a livery pretty much ready to go for us, keeping it under wraps before a big F1-style launch party ;), but are there any sponsors in particular (like that you run on your sprint car for instance) that you want on your lambo??

Cheers..

Pete

as most of you know, logitech released the awsome G25 racing wheel, i've have been looking at these and i am considering buying one, what do you all think?

Title: Re: AROCA GTR2 Online Championship
Post by: Pete Y on January 22, 2007, 08:56:06 PM
G25 would be great, more/redesigned feedback motors,3 pedals and H-pattern shifter. Unfortunately worldwide demand is through the roof, and the first batch for australia were all accounted for before they got here. I think i heard somewhere there wont be more until 2nd quarter 07. Ask EB perhaps, but I think you'd be lucky. Its also seriously expensive - If youve already got a Logitech momo i wouldnt bother, its still a very good wheel.

On a totally unrelated note - stephen.. i think you were sitting behind me on South pde blackburn this afternoon around 4:30? It's a bit hard to wave backwards, but Im sure you would have noticed a bright red 1750 berlina in front of you.. its not like you see one everyday :D

You wouldnt read about it.. Just about to finish off S.Aaron's Peroni Racing Murcielago... and PSP freezes, and I havent saved it for half an hr...  :-\

Dont you just love computers. Still, coming up with a design is the hard part, making it is easy enough. Here's a sneak peek.

Evan..Ed..... you joining us in GTR2?

Was going to and even sourced the software. I attempted the PS2 GT4 licence test challenge that Sheldon created and our International compatriots participated in but it took me about 20 attempts to pass at bronze level stage, some 20 seconds of the winner :o
So i got my PS2 out and amplaying V8 supercrash 3 and winning ;D so let's leave it at that for now.  Let's just say i also need a new pc :-[

Doesnt give me much hope leading into P.I. historics in March!

*bump*

Hey, what's happening with this thread?

I hope you guys haven't been too concerned with racing real racecars for real?

Sad, sad bastards.
