Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on May 27, 2008, 12:25:17 AM Gun metal grey seems to be the "mean" paint scheme for a 90...
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Colin Byrne on May 27, 2008, 07:47:29 AM you could paint a picture of a 105 on the side of it ;D
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Brad Marshall on May 27, 2008, 08:39:09 AM Gun metal grey seems to be the "mean" paint scheme for a 90... ... with flames down the side.Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on May 27, 2008, 11:01:14 AM Come on Sheldon....
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: John Toomath on May 27, 2008, 01:15:38 PM Here's an indication of how successful Colin's great idea could be.
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Brad Marshall on May 27, 2008, 01:36:54 PM yes ... that does prove the idea has merit.
A 90 with a 105 painted on the side ... with Flames!!!! Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Mat Francis on May 27, 2008, 05:14:31 PM Quote yes ... that does prove the idea has merit. A 90 with a 105 painted on the side ... with Flames!!!! that handles like THIS!!! Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Sheldon Mcintosh on May 27, 2008, 05:48:38 PM Ah, the majesty of the 90 as she glides serenely around the race track.
Robins looks pretty sweet in the dark blue. I often thought black would be quite nice, with some dark headlights like Robins car. I've seen a road 90 in red with body-colour bumpers and nice wheels, and it looked REALLY nice. To be honest I don't think yellow is a good idea for a boxy (in a good way) sedan. But that's just my opinion, and with black stripes and maybe dark wheels it may look okay. Apart from the red one I mentioned, I think darker colours and/or metallics suit the 90. There's a recent post in the pictures section with some images from Sandown, you can see Robins one and mine. Luckily the photographer was on the correct side of the track so you can't see my mismatched panel. Oh and Flames look good too. See here for pics:-...http://www.alfaclubvic.org.au/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,68/topic,755.0/ (http://www.alfaclubvic.org.au/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,68/topic,755.0/) The rest of you can get stuffed. If a 105 ever beats Robin's 90 I'll paint one on the side of my car. Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Mat Francis on May 27, 2008, 05:52:48 PM not to worry Sheldon, check out the handling of a particular Alfetta:
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Sheldon Mcintosh on May 27, 2008, 05:58:15 PM I had noticed that, and I'm not happy to have a competitor for 'most extreme lean-angle' award. But just cos they lean doesn't mean they don't handle well.
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: dehne on May 27, 2008, 08:03:01 PM i already have a grey one in a road car also i have had red, blue, metalic blue, gold and silver i am looking for somthing a bit more agressive than just a plain colour, and for flames not really my type but come to the 105 one the side that would be cool and to see a 105 go this quick would be to unbelieveable lol. what do u think of a hot pink???something different
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: spieret on May 27, 2008, 09:09:04 PM Go for the red white and green of the italian flag
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Mat Francis on May 27, 2008, 09:56:40 PM Yes Sheldon, you do have a point. However, my car is not majestic, and definitely does not "glide serenely." In fact, i often compare it to riding a hung over three legged rhinoceros.
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Phil Baskett on May 28, 2008, 10:09:22 AM If a 105 ever beats Robin's 90 I'll paint one on the side of my car. God I would love to see that happen. Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on May 28, 2008, 10:37:25 AM I'd almost build one just to do it......
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Gary Pearce on May 28, 2008, 10:49:06 AM How about:
Sandown Raceway 11/11/07 Race 2 Spencer Rice Alfa 105 under 2000. Fastest lap 1.28.4 Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Gary Pearce on May 28, 2008, 10:54:32 AM Bugger. Sandown July 07, Robin Doherty 1.22.8
Looks like it is up to you Colin. Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Brad Marshall on May 28, 2008, 12:40:40 PM I'd almost build one just to do it...... Please do!!!Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on May 28, 2008, 10:04:56 PM Yeah, a 22 at sandown would be pretty hard to achieve in a 105 without a $#%cken big turbo.....a 22 - how much HP has that 90 got these days....
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: dehne on May 28, 2008, 11:30:22 PM i do not know how much hp it has but its an original gulsun car from canberra and if it helps i only use 2nd and 3rd around winton my other other 90 has a auto-delta chip in it and we have had it up to 250kmh and i reckon the race car is quicker than that
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Sheldon Mcintosh on May 28, 2008, 11:57:50 PM Bugger. Sandown July 07, Robin Doherty 1.22.8 Looks like it is up to you Colin. I think there was a few errors in the timing on that day. Robin is more like a 1.27 I believe. However, if it's on Natsoft it must be true, so good luck getting a 105 down to that..... Dehne, these 90s sound pretty awesome, can't wait to see the track car. Got any pics as they are now? Gonna have it ready for our sprint at Winton in August? Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Gary Pearce on May 29, 2008, 09:55:02 AM Well then Sheldon, if Robin's July 07 time is not correct, then Spencer Rice's 1.28 in a 105 might be the bench mark then?
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on May 29, 2008, 12:29:42 PM Ahhhh, a 27, that sounds more like it......
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Sheldon Mcintosh on May 29, 2008, 03:02:30 PM Well then Sheldon, if Robin's July 07 time is not correct, then Spencer Rice's 1.28 in a 105 might be the bench mark then? Robin's car did a 128.2 2 years ago, and is significantly faster now. I wouldn't get too excited about it Gary, it ain't gonna happen. Oh, did I mention no forced induction allowed? (not that I'm getting scared or anything). Anyway, sounds like dehne's car will blow everyone away. more than 250km/h from a 90? Saw 240 out of a 90 on Youtube once, but that had a fully worked 24V. Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Brad Marshall on May 29, 2008, 04:21:35 PM 250km/h from a 90? Saw 240 out of a 90 on Youtube once, but that had a fully worked 24V. Still a 90 though, was that with or without the briefcase?Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Gary Pearce on May 29, 2008, 04:25:39 PM Don't ya love how Sheldon's threads are always big?
I've got the answer, Robin......to drive a 105 under 1.28. What do you think? Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on May 29, 2008, 05:09:21 PM 250km/h from a 90? Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: dehne on June 15, 2008, 03:25:48 PM hi all its done what do you think
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on June 16, 2008, 10:55:32 AM spectacular!
can we get a silvertop sticker for the doors? Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Davidm1750 on June 16, 2008, 02:04:47 PM Yellow on a boxy sedan can actually look good, there is guy over here in Hobart (Norm Henry) whose Targa car (Giulia Super) looks good in yellow with two Navy blue stripes over it. Mind you I suspect it needs the go faster stripes, since it is standard spec. Then again hot pink, hmn not so sure...probably up there with Lime Green and lurid orange. Why not cobalt blue with a bright yellow nose. My brother painted one of his cars (125 special) the Italian flag and frankly it looked crap. Mind you there was a lot of bog in it, and the paint job was rubbish.
The idea of a 105 is interesting but why not a Zagato 3.0L V6 (the monster) down the side spitting flames out of a huge exhaust !! More of the correct era and certainly dramatic. Painted in Navy blue with the Zagato in bright yellow with red flames.....now we are talking. Cheers Dave Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Edward Hellsten on June 16, 2008, 02:12:05 PM Dehne,
you a closet Richmond Tigers supporter too :) Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: dehne on June 16, 2008, 06:31:34 PM scott
was thinking on putting the black across the front window with taxi in white but i guess i should use yellow with the price of fuel i minght have to use as a taxi any way to cover race costs Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Victor Lee on June 20, 2008, 03:12:27 PM Not another yellow Alfa! :D
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Scott Farquharson on June 20, 2008, 03:28:39 PM yes, but this one is a taxi....and yeah, what's wrong with picking up a couple of fares on the way to the track....
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Victor Lee on June 20, 2008, 04:29:40 PM I'm recall seeing a proper taxi sign on top of Robin's 90 at one time. Should ask him for a lend!
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Sheldon Mcintosh on June 20, 2008, 05:42:51 PM thought about body-colour bumpers? I saw pics of a red 90 with body-colour bumpers and nice wheels and it looked really nice.
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Evan Bottcher on June 20, 2008, 08:22:28 PM is that a marijuana leaf on the front guard? ???
Title: Re: paint scheme for race car Post by: Sheldon Mcintosh on June 20, 2008, 08:29:49 PM Uhhh, no. Maple leaf. MAPLE LEAF!
